Job summary

Hanwha Ocean EPU in Singapore seeks a Senior Architectural Engineer to lead architectural design for FPSO/FLNG topsides, ensuring code-compliance and integration with process and safety systems.

The role requires offshore/oil & gas architecture expertise, coordinating multi-discipline interfaces, and supporting procurement, fabrication, commissioning, and start-up activities while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Senior Architectural Engineer is responsible for performing architectural engineering design, coordination, and technical assurance for assigned FPSO/FLNG and offshore projects, working under the guidance of the Lead Engineer or Principal Engineer. The position is primarily responsible for topsides architectural facilities such as E‑Houses, laboratory buildings, workshops, warehouses, technical buildings, and other topsides enclosed structures.

The ideal candidate has a strong offshore oil and gas background and expertise in FPSO topsides architectural engineering. The role applies comprehensive knowledge of offshore architectural design, building layout optimization, human factors engineering, environmental and safety requirements, passive fire protection principles, and building systems integration to deliver safe, functional, maintainable, and code‑compliant engineering solutions. The position coordinates architectural interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines, supports vendor and fabrication technical reviews, ensures compliance with offshore regulations and project requirements, and provides day‑to‑day technical guidance to junior engineers as required.

Key Responsibility

(i) Corporate & General

• Assist the Head of Discipline in developing and maintaining corporate architectural engineering standards, design guidelines, specifications & architectural engineering competencies, and mentoring Architectural Engineers and Designers.
• Maintain the EPCI and O&M-phase lessons-learnt database to continuously improve architectural engineering design, constructability, operability, maintainability, and personnel safety.
  

(ii) Proposal / Pre-Award Phase

• Conduct conceptual and feasibility architectural studies and provide engineering expertise to support bid proposals, including facility layouts, material selection, and manhour and cost estimates.
• Support multidisciplinary reviews to ensure building arrangements are compatible with process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, and safety requirements.
  

(iii) Feasibility / Pre-FEED / FEED / EPCI Phase

• Perform architectural engineering design and coordination for assigned work scopes.
• Prepare architectural design basis documents, philosophies, specifications, materials & data sheets, and schedules & deliverables.
• Develop and review architectural layouts & details, including floors, elevations, ceiling, access & escape, and door & window schedules.
• Attend internal and external project meetings with clients, classification societies, vendors, subcontractors, and third parties, and generate meeting minutes as required.
• Manage to develop architectural 3D model and participate in model reviews, constructability workshops, safety reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, and operational design reviews.
• Coordinate & manage interface of building layouts with equipment, access& escape, passive fire protection, fire and blast-rated partitions, operational functionality, vendor architectural deliverables, ensuring compliance with project specifications, regulations, class, and client standards.
• Support implementation of engineering change notices (ECNs) and variation requests within the architectural discipline, ensuring affected deliverables are updated and issued accordingly.
• Provide engineering support during procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities, including resolution of technical queries, field changes, and non-conformance reports.
• Participate in yard inspections, factory acceptance tests, site visits, and verification of architectural installations where required.
  

(iv) Operation & Maintenance Phase

• Support O&M teams with troubleshooting; provide architectural engineering expertise for operational improvements related to safety, accessibility, habitability, and asset integrity.
  

Qualification

• Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Engineering, or a relevant Engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the offshore or onshore oil & gas industry.
• Minimum 5 continuous years at top-tier FPSO or offshore/onshore EPC contractors.
• Proven experience with classification society design approval processes (ABS, DNV, LR, BV) for floating production units.
• Working knowledge of relevant offshore and industrial architectural codes, standards, and regulations, including IBC, NFPA, IMO SOLAS (as applicable), NORSOK standards, ISO standards, local authority requirements, and classification society rules.
• Experience in at least one FPSO EPCI project from the project start (engineering) through sail‑away or delivery.
• Strong knowledge of offshore building systems, architectural materials, passive fire protection systems, building envelope design, industrial facility planning, human factors engineering, and maintenance access requirements.
• Extensive knowledge of offshore architectural engineering practices, codes, standards, and multidisciplinary coordination requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills; able to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Fluent in English with strong oral and written communication skills.
