Kake is a remote-first, people-first global community of senior engineers. We are seeking a Senior Android Video Player Engineer to own end-to-end live streaming playback on Android and Android TV.

You will design and optimize the Android video player, tune ExoPlayer components, and work across teams to ensure reliable playback in a mature streaming ecosystem. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, optimize ABR logic, and integrate ad technologies while leveraging QoE metrics to drive

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Android development experience with Kotlin and Java.
• Proven experience building video players for Android/Android TV.
• Deep ExoPlayer expertise and live streaming optimization.
• Experience with DASH and HLS, ABR workflows, and ad integrations (IMA/SSAI/DAI).
• Experience with QoE metrics and video analytics tools like Conviva, Mux, Hydrolix.
• Proficiency with Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines, and Flows.
• Excellent written and verbal English; able to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize Android video player frameworks for live streaming.
• Customize ExoPlayer components and ABR logic for playback performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve live streaming playback issues (buffering, latency).
• Handle dynamic manifests (MPD/M3U8) and adaptive bitrate logic.
• Integrate ad technologies (IMA, SSAI, DAI) within the player framework.
• Use QoE analytics to diagnose and improve playback in real-world scenarios.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure playback quality across devices.
• Contribute to best practices and continuous improvements across streaming projects.
