Job summary

Hello Planet PTE. Ltd. is seeking a Senior Android Engineer in Singapore to lead iterative development of our global dating app. You will shape the Android experience with Java/Kotlin, implement scalable architectures, and mentor junior engineers, all while collaborating with Product, Design and Backend teams.

The role requires deep Android expertise, strong performance optimization skills, and fluency in English with proficiency in Chinese. Based in Singapore, reporting to the CTO.

This role will be based in Singapore and report directly to the CTO.

Responsibilities:

• Lead Iterative Development: Spearhead the iterative development process of our global social app, ensuring robust functionality and seamless user experience on the Android platform.
• Optimize Android Client Framework: Continuously optimize and enhance the Android client framework to maintain high standards of code quality, efficiency, and scalability.
• Architectural Design and Implementation: Design and implement scalable and maintainable software solutions that meet the app's evolving needs, considering performance, security, and user engagement.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of excellence in software development practices and innovation.
• Collaboration and Communication: Effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Design, and Backend Engineering, to drive feature development and ensure alignment with business goals.
• Build Reusable Components: Develop reusable components throughout the app.
• Leverage New Technologies: Utilize native new/widely used technologies like Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Room.
• Data Synchronization and Real-Time Chat: Work on a mobile app that synchronizes data and allows real-time chat.
• Tech Debt Reduction: Work on reducing tech debt and implementing best practices, such as MVVM.
• Feature Development: Build new features and have the opportunity to anchor a feature across teams.
• Hackathons Participation: Participate in hackathons that evolve into real user-facing features.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 Years of Android Development Experience: Proven track record in Android app development, proficient in Java, Kotlin, and Android SDK, with a strong understanding of mobile app architecture and design patterns.
• Strong Programming Skills: Expertise in writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code, focusing on performance optimization and memory management.
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of multi-threading, concurrency, inter-process communication, and practical experience with TCP/IP and HTTPS protocols.
• UI/UX Expertise: Proficiency in custom view development, including advanced animations and complex UI components, to deliver a polished and intuitive user interface.
• Performance Optimization: Experience optimizing app performance metrics such as startup time, memory usage, UI responsiveness (lag resolution), crash analysis, and ANR prevention.
• Database Proficiency: Strong knowledge of database management systems, including native SQLite and ORM libraries (e.g., GreenDao), for efficient data storage and retrieval.
• Excellent Problem-Solving and Debugging Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing technical challenges and exploring innovative solutions.
• Strong Written and Verbal Communication: Fluent in English (both written and verbal); proficiency in Chinese is a must.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and Integrating Third-Party Libraries: Proficient in Android Studio and Git.

Nice to Haves:

• Experience in writing reports in Mode or other reporting tools.
• Public GitHub profile.
• Desire to mentor and provide in-depth code review feedback.
• Released your own application.
• Familiarity with messaging channel communication principles and experience integrating mainstream payment systems.
• Experience with Google Play Console, Firebase, and other development tools and backend services for app monitoring, analytics, and continuous integration.
