Senior AI Developer
About ADATAGROUP
ADATAGROUP is a Singapore-based trade-tech company building AI-powered solutions that modernise cross-border trade across Asia-Pacific.
Our platform helps freight forwarders and customs declaring agents automate complex trade and documentation workflows, processing thousands of shipments across the trade lifecycle.
We are a small, high-impact team where engineers have direct ownership of what they build and work closely with technical leadership on AI solutions already in production.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior AI Developer to take ownership of and advance the AI capabilities powering our trade-tech platform.
This is a hands‑on engineering role. You will design, build, improve, and deploy LLM-powered systems that process real freight and customs documents for live clients every day.
As a key AI engineer on the team, you will work across document intelligence, customs automation, and trade compliance — from improving extraction accuracy on complex trade documents to developing agentic workflows for customs permit automation and integrating real‑time shipment intelligence.
Key Responsibilities
AI Development
- Design, build, and optimise AI capabilities across document intelligence, customs automation, tariff classification, and trade compliance
- Build and refine agentic AI workflows for end‑to‑end trade automation
- Improve structured data extraction from complex trade documents, including invoices, customs forms, bills of lading, and shipping instructions
- Evaluate and integrate new AI models, APIs, and techniques as the technology evolves
- Monitor and improve the accuracy, reliability, and performance of production AI systems
Platform Engineering
- Develop and maintain Python/FastAPI backend services powering the AI platform
- Build scalable batch‑processing capabilities for high‑volume document ingestion
- Integrate external APIs and data sources to enrich platform intelligence
- Design validation and quality‑assurance pipelines for production AI outputs
- Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code with appropriate automated test coverage
Collaboration & Ownership
- Work closely with technical leadership on architecture, AI strategy, and product direction
- Own technical problems from investigation through deployment and production improvement
- Triage and resolve client‑reported issues together with the operations team
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
- Communicate progress, trade‑offs, and blockers clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Requirements
Must Have
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 1–2 years working with AI/ML or LLM‑based applications
- Strong Python proficiency and experience writing production‑grade software
- Hands‑on experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or similar, including prompt engineering, function/tool calling, and structured outputs
- Experience building REST APIs using FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar frameworks
- Experience extracting structured information from unstructured or semi‑structured data such as documents, PDFs, web content, or OCR output
- Ability to work independently in a small, fast‑moving team with a high level of ownership
- Must already have the legal right to work in Singapore. Work pass sponsorship is not available for this role.
Strongly Preferred
- Experience with intelligent document processing, including PDF parsing, OCR, and extraction from complex multi‑format business documents
- Hands‑on experience designing agentic AI systems involving multi‑step workflows, tool use, orchestration, or reasoning
Nice to Have
- Experience with agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, Google ADK, or similar
- Experience with vector databases, embeddings, and RAG architectures
- Experience with PostgreSQL, cloud object storage, Docker, and AWS
- Background in freight forwarding, logistics, customs, trade compliance, or supply chain
- Experience with HS code classification, permit automation, or regulatory workflows
- Familiarity with React, Next.js, or TypeScript for occasional frontend collaboration
- Contributions to open‑source AI/ML projects
What We Value
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a pragmatic problem‑solver who prioritises working solutions over unnecessary complexity
- Is comfortable working with ambiguity and messy real‑world data
- Keeps up with developments in AI and actively experiments with new approaches
- Takes ownership of outcomes, not just assigned code
- Can balance speed of execution with the reliability required for production systems
Tech Stack
AI/LLM: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and other LLM APIs, agentic frameworks, prompt engineering
Backend: Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL
Document Intelligence: PDF parsing, OCR, structured extraction
Infrastructure: AWS, object storage, Docker
Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript
Engineering: Git, GitHub, CI/CD
Why Join ADATAGROUP?
- AI‑first engineering culture — Work directly with technical leadership that actively builds with AI.
- Real production impact — Your work will power trade workflows used by freight forwarders and customs professionals, not just prototypes or internal R&D projects.
- Meaningful ownership — In a small engineering team, you will have significant influence over the AI architecture, technical decisions, and evolution of the platform.
- Broad AI scope — Work across document intelligence, agentic automation, customs workflows, tariff classification, and trade compliance rather than being limited to a single AI feature.
- A genuinely challenging domain — Cross‑border trade involves complex regulations, messy documents, multiple data formats, and real operational consequences. It is an environment where well‑designed AI can create substantial value.
- Growing regional opportunity — Build technology designed to scale across clients and trade workflows throughout Asia-Pacific.
Bonus: If you have built something involving document intelligence, agentic AI, logistics/trade automation, or complex workflow automation, we would love to see it.
