The East Asian Institute (EAI) at the National University of Singapore is seeking a highly qualified Research Fellow with expertise in Chinese health economics and social policy, alongside demonstrated experience in the digital economy, to join our multidisciplinary team.

About EAI: Established in 1997, the East Asian Institute (EAI) promotes academic and policy-oriented research on East Asian development. Our focus includes contemporary China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), and China's economic relations with Japan, Korea, ASEAN, and the world. We collaborate with regional and international institutions, organize conferences, and provide insights that inform public policy.

Position
  • Senior Research Fellow
  • Field: Chinese Health Economics, Social Policy, and the Digital Economy
Role and Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth research on:
    • Health economics and health system reform in China (e.g., health financing, provider payment, pharmaceutical policy, primary care, public health, aging and long-term care)
    • Social policy (e.g., social insurance, pensions, social assistance, labor and welfare policy, education and human capital, inequality and inclusion)
    • The digital economy and its governance (e.g., artificial intelligence, industrial policy, technological competition and national security, platform economy, fintech and digital payments, digital public services, data governance and privacy, algorithmic regulation)
  • Contribute to EAI's Background Briefs for a policymaker audience and produce applied policy reports.
  • Engage the public through commentary, op-eds, and seminars.
  • Publish in academic journals and other reputable platforms.
  • Build partnerships with academic, industry, and policy stakeholders in health, social policy, and digital governance.
  • Contribute to the coordination and organization of EAI's seminars, conferences and other relevant research projects (e.g. production of EAI's journals or joint research reports).
Qualifications
  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Economics, Health Economics, Public Policy, Political Economy, Sociology, Public Health, Law)
  • 6+ years of work experience in research or relevant policy/practice areas
  • Demonstrable track record working at the intersection of governance, social policy, and digital transformation (e.g., health financing, social insurance, platform economy, data governance, digital public services)
