Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for aResearch Assistant/Associateposition in the Department of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our laboratory conducts interdisciplinary research at the interface of human genetics, functional genomics, molecular biology and cardiometabolic disease, with a particular interest in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying obesity, dyslipidaemia, atherosclerosis and related metabolic disorders. We combine genetic and multi-omics approaches with cellular and animal models and high-throughput functional studies to identify and validate disease-relevant pathways and therapeutic targets.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team and play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the laboratory while also contributing to ongoing research projects. The appointment will be made on a contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Purpose of the post

TheResearch Assistant/Associatewill work closely with the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for general laboratory management, including procurement, inventory management, equipment maintenance, laboratory safety and administrative coordination. Depending on experience and research needs, the candidate will also have opportunities to support and participate in ongoing research projects.

TheResearch Assistant/Associatewill be accountable to the Principal Investigator and will be expected to:

1. Oversee the day-to-day management and general operation of the laboratory;
2. Manage procurement of laboratory consumables, reagents and equipment, including quotations, ordering, deliveries and relevant documentation;
3. Maintain laboratory inventories and ensure adequate stocks of commonly used reagents, consumables and supplies;
4. Coordinate the maintenance, servicing, calibration and repair of laboratory equipment, including liaison with vendors and relevant university units;
5. Maintain laboratory documentation and support compliance with institutional laboratory safety, biosafety and administrative requirements, including laboratory access and onboarding of new staff and students.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

(a) Have a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree inBiochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Molecular Biology or a related discipline;

(b) Have prior laboratory research experience; experience in laboratory management, procurement, equipment maintenance or research administration would be advantageous;

(c) Be highly organised, responsible and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities;

(d) Be able to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a research team;

(e) Have good interpersonal and communication skills and be comfortable coordinating with researchers, administrative staff, vendors and service providers;

(f) Be proficient in common computer applications, including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
