Job summary

National Environment Agency in Singapore is seeking a Scientific Officer in the Ionising Radiation Control Department to enforce radiation safety regulations and strengthen the national radiation protection framework. You will administer the Radiation Protection Act, review EPR plans, conduct site inspections, and collaborate with industry and government partners on regulatory guidance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Physics or radiation-related discipline.
• At least 2 years of relevant working experience in ionising radiation and radiation protection.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good analytical, writing and presentation skills.
• Able to work in a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Administering the Radiation Protection Act and its Regulations, and ensuring regulatory compliance across all radiation users.
• Reviewing licensees' on-site Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) plans to assess compliance with regulatory requirements and identify areas for improvement.
• Supporting the review and enhancement of the regulatory framework through benchmarking and analysis of international best practices.
• Evaluating radiation protection, security, transport and radioactive waste management plans for compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Contributing to the development of regulatory policies, guidance and technical documents for the safe and secure use of radiation in industrial and medical facilities.
• Conducting site inspections, investigating regulatory issues, and providing technical advice on radiation protection matters.
• Working with industry stakeholders, international organisations, consultants as well as local and foreign government agencies on regulatory and technical matters
