Job summary

Onto Innovation's Singapore team seeks a Staff R&D Scientist to develop AI-driven data analysis solutions for optical metrology. Lead algorithm design, prototype and test, and collaborate across R&D, software, and applications to push ML innovations into production.

The role emphasizes strong programming skills, deep ML/AI knowledge, and a track record of deploying large-scale models in a fast-paced environment. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Typically 7+ years of R&D, algorithm development, ML, or semiconductor metrology experience.
• Solid background in data analysis, ML, signal processing, statistics, and visualization.
• Proven ML/AI research experience with impactful outcomes.
• Strong programming skills in Python / MATLAB / C++; experience with ML libraries and DL frameworks.
• Track record in building and deploying large-scale models.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience in semiconductor manufacturing is a plus; travel up to 25%.
• Independent, fast-paced, cross-department collaboration capability.

Responsibilities

• Interface with scientists, product management, and marketing to analyze requirements.
• Innovate using ML/AI to address technology gaps in metrology.
• Collect and analyse data, review literature, propose methodologies.
• Design, prototype, and fine-tune algorithms for problems.
• Validate and benchmark algorithms to improve optical metrology.
• Define features and create software requirements for productization.
• Develop and execute test plans for reliability and deployment readiness.
• Deliver measurable value through innovative tech development.
