Elsevier is seeking a Publishing Consultant to work remotely across Asia-Pacific, focusing on launching and growing journals on Digital Commons. The role blends client relationship management with hands-on technical problem solving, including guiding editors in Mandarin and addressing HTML issues before launches.

The position is entry-level, fully remote, and supports teams across Cairo, Amsterdam, Singapore, and the US with asynchronous workflows.

• Train non-technical academic staff on unfamiliar tools and systems, with patience and clarity.
• Partner with a Strategic Advisor on more complex questions: journal indexing, editorial policy, and competitive positioning.
• Build working proficiency in HTML/CSS troubleshooting to support day-to-day client needs.

About the Role

Academic publishing is changing quickly: AI detection policy without a settled playbook, research integrity questions that did not exist five years ago, journals expecting SaaS‑level responsiveness. This role supports Asia‑Pacific institutions launching and growing journals on Elsevier's Digital Commons platform. The work moves between client relationship management and hands‑on technical problem‑solving, often within the same day: guiding a first‑time editor through submission workflows in Mandarin one week, resolving an HTML formatting issue ahead of a launch deadline the next. This is a fully remote, entry‑level position, part of a team spread across Cairo, Amsterdam, Singapore, and the US, working largely asynchronously across time zones. Success in the role depends on strong independent judgment and follow‑through.

Requirements

• Fluent in Mandarin and English, written and spoken, able to move between informal client conversations and formal communication with university leadership.
• Prior experience in publishing, editorial will be advantageous.
• Comfortable working independently in a remote, cross‑time‑zone environment, with strong self‑management and communication about workload.
• A technical aptitude and willingness to learn: prior HTML experience is not required, but genuine interest in how systems work is.
• Strong written English for professional correspondence, with good judgment about when to escalation an issue versus resolve it directly.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Curiosity about AI tools and their application to editorial workflows.
• Several of our consultants already use AI tools to support quality checks, and we are looking for more of that mindset.
• Prior remote work experience.
• Proficiency in a third language.
