Job summary

Activate Interactive Singapore is recruiting a Software Engineer to join the Co-Development Business Unit for one-year fixed-term engagements with Singapore Government Agencies. You will contribute across backend services, APIs, frontend interfaces, and cloud-enabled deployments, supporting MSF programs and data platforms.

The role emphasizes building reusable engineering capabilities, collaboration across teams, and delivering pragmatic solutions within a complex government tech landscape.

Qualifications

• Backend development using Java, Kotlin, Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go, C# or similar.
• Frontend development using React / Next.js, Vue, Angular or similar.
• RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
• Microservices and distributed-system concepts.
• SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• NoSQL databases where appropriate.
• Data processing and ETL pipelines.
• System integrations and event-driven architectures.
• Automated testing and maintainable software design.
• Git-based development and code reviews.
• Docker and containerisation.
• Cloud deployment and production operations.
• Our current environments include Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript and React, but we value strong engineering principles over mastery of a particular programming languages.

Responsibilities

• Build citizen- or officer-facing digital products.
• Develop APIs and backend services.
• Build modern frontend applications.
• Develop secure data ingestion and ETL pipelines.
• Integrate systems across government agencies and partners.
• Modernise existing Java or platform-based applications.
• Build cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
• Improve automated testing and engineering quality.
• Establish observability and operational practices.
• Implement security and compliance controls.
• Create reusable engineering capabilities that can be adopted by multiple MSF teams.
• The environment includes both greenfield and brownfield work.
