Job summary

PUB, The National Water Agency in Singapore invites applications for an Assistant Engineer/Senior Assistant Engineer (Shift Operations) at Choa Chu Kang Waterworks. You will operate water treatment plant and support continuous operation with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a Diploma in Engineering and ability to rotate shifts; prior water treatment or plant operation experience is an advantage.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Engineering in applicable discipline.
• Ability to perform rotating shifts (3 shifts).
• Water treatment or utilities operations experience is advantageous.
• Operational licences/certifications (e.g., boiler operator) are advantageous.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate water treatment plant and equipment to produce potable water according to standards and respond to alarms.
• Carry out water sampling and laboratory tests to monitor water quality against standards.
• Follow SOPs, WSH regulations and permit-to-work; participate in safety drills.
• Supervise on-site contractor works ensuring safety and quality.
• Collaborate with shift operators and other teams for seamless handovers.
• Maintain logs and contribute to process improvements and SOP reviews.

What the role is:

As an Assistant Engineer/ Senior Assistant Engineer (Shift Operations), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following :

What you will be working on:

• Operate water treatment plant and equipment to produce potable water at prescribed quantity and quality, in compliance with WHO, USEPA and EPH guidelines, and respond promptly to alarms, equipment faults and process deviations.
• Carry out water sampling and laboratory tests to monitor and ensure water quality is consistently maintained within prescribed control limits and regulatory standards.
• Adhere strictly to SOPs, WSH regulations and Permit-to-Work systems during all operational and maintenance activities, and participate actively in emergency response drills and safety improvement initiatives.
• Supervise works performed by contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with safety, quality and contractual requirements.
• Work closely with fellow shift operators, day work colleagues and other plant teams to ensure seamless handovers, share operational updates and resolve issues together as one team.
• Continuous Improvement — Maintain accurate operational logs and records, and contribute to process improvement initiatives and the review of SOPs and work instructions to enhance plant efficiency and reliability.

What we are looking for:

Requirements

• Diploma in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical or related discipline)
• Able to perform rotating shift work [3-shifts: 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm, 11pm to 7am]
• Experience in water treatment, utilities or process plant operations is an advantage
• Possession of relevant operational licences or certifications (e.g., boiler operator, water treatment) is an advantage
• Familiarity with SCADA systems is an advantage

*Candidate with more relevant years of experience can be considered for Senior Assistant Engineer position.
