Job summary

sggovterp is seeking a Senior Engineer to support the Catchment & Waterways Department in the Western and Central Unit. The role focuses on overseeing reservoir operations, maintenance, and water quality initiatives to ensure safe, compliant water management.

You will coordinate inter-reservoir transfers, reservoir scouring, and maintenance work while monitoring water quality and responding to public feedback. Strong planning, contract oversight, and emergency response capabilities are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Environmental engineering or equivalent or relevant experience in reservoir operations and maintenance work.
• Independent, able to handle unpredictable situations and work under pressure, and competent in executing emergency response plans and SOPs.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills and possess a positive, can-do attitude.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Public Sector Conditions of Contract and experience in contract management and administration.
• Preferably possess Class 3 Driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate all inter-reservoir transfer and reservoir scouring operations in accordance with SOP.
• Oversee the maintenance of reservoirs, including aquatic plants and flotsam removal.
• Monitor reservoir water quality, collect water samples, and take appropriate mitigating measures in accordance with SOP.
• Manage midge issues and take appropriate mitigating measures in accordance with SOP.
• Oversee attendance to public feedback on reservoir related issues.
• Plan, oversee and review staff deployment.
• Plan and review response plans and SOPs for emergency incidences.
• Contract management and administration including calling, evaluation and award of tenders/quotations.
