Job summary

Groundup.ai is seeking a Project Engineer to own delivery of Industrial AI & IoT projects across Singapore and regional markets. You will oversee post-sales handover through deployment, commissioning, customer acceptance, and project closure, balancing technical feasibility with cost and schedule.

Project Engineer – Industrial AI & IoT

Location: Singapore
Travel: Regional travel across Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Middle East may be required.

About the Role

Groundup.ai aims to empower every workplace to become AI-driven. Our Industrial AI and IoT solutions are deployed across manufacturing, maritime, aerospace, logistics, infrastructure, and other industrial environments.

We are looking for a Project Engineer to take ownership of the successful delivery of customer projects from post-sales handover through deployment, commissioning, customer acceptance, and project closure.

This is not purely a project coordination role.

You will be expected to understand the engineering behind our solutions, challenge technical assumptions, coordinate multiple stakeholders, control project costs, manage risks, and ensure that what was sold is successfully delivered in the field.

You will work closely with our IoT Field Engineers, AI/ML Engineers, Product, Sales, customers, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, within budget, and to the required technical standard.

Our existing deployment model already requires projects to remain technically feasible, commercially viable, and aligned with margin and budget expectations. The Project Engineer will take primary ownership of that delivery outcome.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Ownership

• Own assigned projects from internal handover through final customer acceptance and project closure.

• Develop and maintain project plans covering scope, milestones, resources, procurement, site activities, commissioning, documentation, and customer acceptance.

• Translate contractual and commercial commitments into clear execution plans.

• Establish project schedules, responsibilities, dependencies, risks, and acceptance criteria.

• Drive projects proactively rather than waiting for issues to be escalated.

Engineering & Technical Coordination

• Understand the proposed IoT and Industrial AI architecture sufficiently to coordinate and challenge implementation decisions.

• Review site survey findings, deployment designs, bills of materials, installation methods, gateway and sensor requirements, connectivity arrangements, and commissioning plans.

• Coordinate technical decisions between Field Engineering, Product, AI/ML, R&D, vendors, and customers.

• Ensure the deployed solution remains consistent with the approved architecture and customer requirements.

• Identify technical risks early and drive appropriate mitigation.

The role will work closely with Field Engineers responsible for sensors, gateways, connectivity, commissioning, troubleshooting, and industrial interfaces.

Schedule, Cost & Resource Management

• Own project timelines and ensure milestones are achieved.

• Plan manpower, equipment, hardware, logistics, vendors, and site resources.

• Track project expenditure against approved budgets.

• Monitor actual versus planned manpower, hardware usage, logistics costs, subcontractor costs, and other project expenses.

• Identify potential cost overruns early and implement corrective actions.

• Prevent unnecessary customisation, over-engineering, and uncontrolled project expenditure.

• Support post-project reviews to improve future project margins and execution efficiency.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

• Act as a primary project contact for customers during implementation.

• Conduct project kick-offs, progress meetings, technical coordination meetings, and project reviews.

• Clearly communicate progress, risks, dependencies, actions, and decisions.

• Manage customer expectations regarding scope, timelines, site requirements, responsibilities, and deliverables.

• Build credibility with customer engineering, operations, maintenance, IT/OT, procurement, and management teams.

• Escalate issues professionally when customer actions or site constraints threaten project delivery.

Scope & Change Management

• Maintain clear control of agreed project scope.

• Identify scope creep, additional requirements, technical changes, and customer-requested variations.

• Assess the engineering, schedule, manpower, and commercial impact of proposed changes before implementation.

• Coordinate variation requests with Sales and management where additional commercial approval is required.

• Ensure the company does not absorb material additional scope without appropriate approval.

Vendor & Contractor Management

• Coordinate installation contractors, electrical contractors, system integrators, logistics providers, and other third parties where required.

• Define clear vendor scopes and deliverables.

• Monitor vendor performance, workmanship, safety, quality, timelines, and cost.

• Verify completed work before approving project acceptance or payment recommendations.

• Ensure third-party work complies with Groundup.ai's engineering and documentation standards.

Site Deployment & Commissioning

• Coordinate site access, permits, inductions, safety requirements, installation windows, shutdown requirements, and customer resources.

• Ensure site readiness before mobilising engineering teams.

• Support Field Engineers during critical deployments and commissioning activities.

• Monitor testing, commissioning, punch-list closure, and final system validation.

• Ensure projects are properly handed over to customers and internal support teams.

Risk, Quality & Safety

• Maintain project risk registers and actively manage technical, commercial, schedule, vendor, and customer risks.

• Ensure project teams comply with customer safety requirements, company procedures, method statements, risk assessments, and permit-to-work processes.

• Stop or elevate work where safety, engineering quality, or compliance is compromised.

• Ensure installations and documentation meet applicable engineering and company standards.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain complete project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

• Prepare regular internal and customer-facing project status reports.

• Maintain action registers, risk registers, change logs, cost trackers, schedules, meeting minutes, and acceptance documentation.

• Ensure as-built drawings, commissioning records, test results, photographs, asset registers, and other required handover documents are completed.

• Conduct project close-out reviews and document lessons learned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.

• Approximately 2–5 years of experience in project engineering, systems integration, industrial automation, IoT, electrical/mechanical projects, technology deployment, or a related field.

• Experience coordinating engineering projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.

• Strong understanding of project schedules, resources, budgets, risks, and scope management.

• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, architecture diagrams, engineering documentation, equipment specifications, and installation plans.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make practical decisions under project pressure.

• Commercial awareness and ability to balance engineering requirements against cost, schedule, scope, and project profitability.

• Strong customer-facing communication skills.

• Comfortable working directly with enterprise customers, contractors, vendors, and engineering teams.

• Able to work independently and take ownership of project outcomes.

• Willing and able to travel internationally when required.

Qualifications That Set You Apart

• Experience in Industrial IoT, automation, condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, instrumentation, controls, OT systems, or Industry 4.0.

• Experience managing projects in manufacturing, maritime, oil & gas, utilities, aerospace, infrastructure, or other industrial environments.

• Project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, CAPM, or equivalent.

• Knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, networking, or industrial communication systems.

• Experience managing subcontractors and installation vendors.
