Job summary

Newcon Builders Pte Ltd in Singapore seeks a Project Engineer to join the project delivery team, coordinating with the Project Manager and consultants to plan, coordinate, and execute construction activities to high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

You will analyze drawings, develop method statements, maintain short-term programmes, manage RFAs/RFIs, support technical submissions, and contribute to value engineering and design for manufacturing and assembly to improve buildability

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent is required and 3+ years of Singapore experience.
• Experience in coordinating complex structural/architectural works is preferred.
• Ability to interpret drawings, develop method statements, and manage construction programmes.

Responsibilities

• Study and interpret drawings to identify constructability concerns and design clashes.
• Develop method statements and work sequences for complex works, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Prepare short-term programmes linked to the master plan and monitor critical path activities.
• Coordinate with consultants and design team on technical queries; manage RFAs/RFIs.
• Identify on-site technical challenges and propose practical engineered solutions.
• Support Project Manager with technical submissions, including temporary works designs.
• Participate in value engineering to improve buildability and reduce cost or schedule.
• Promote standardisation, prefabrication, or DfMA to boost productivity and cut waste.
• Contribute to post-project reviews with documented lessons learned.
• Ensure all temporary works are designed and approved by a competent person.
• Attend weekly safety inspections and toolbox talks to reinforce safety culture.

Job description

As a Project Engineer, you will be embedded in the heart of our project delivery team, working alongside the Project Manager and cross-disciplinary consultants to plan, coordinate, and execute construction activities to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

Beyond day-to-day site coordination, we expect our Project Engineers to be active thinkers on the project — identifying constructability issues before they become problems, proposing alternative construction methodologies, and contributing meaningfully to value engineering exercises that benefit both the project and the client.

What You Will Do:

• Study and interpret structural, architectural, and M&E drawings in detail, identifying coordination gaps, constructability concerns, and design clashes before work commences on site
• Develop method statements and work sequences for complex structural and architectural works, ensuring construction logic is sound, safe, and efficient
• Prepare and maintain short-term construction programmes tied to the master programme, identifying critical path activities and proposing recovery measures when milestones are at risk
• Coordinate with consultants and the design team on technical queries, managing the RFA/ RFI process to achieve timely and documented design decisions
• Identify technical challenges on site — whether related to ground conditions, structural interfaces, sequencing conflicts, or material constraints — and propose practical, engineered solutions rather than waiting for instructions
• Support the Project Manager in preparing and responding to technical submissions, including temporary works designs
• Actively participate in value engineering exercises during the pre-construction and construction phases, contributing ideas that reduce cost, improve buildability, or shorten the programme without compromising structural integrity, safety, or design intent
• Identify repetitive construction operations where standardisation, prefabrication, or DfMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) approaches can improve productivity and reduce waste
• Contribute to post-project reviews by documenting successful engineering solutions and lessons learned for application in future projects
• Ensure all temporary works — including falsework, formwork, shoring, and excavation support — are designed, checked, and approved by a competent person
• Participate actively in weekly safety inspections and toolbox meetings, reinforcing a culture where safety and quality are non-negotiable at every level of the team

Qualification

• Candidate must possess at least Bachelor's Degree/professional Degree in Engineering (Civil) or equivalent, at least 3 years of working experience in Singapore, in the related field is required for this position.
