Job summary

Michael Page International Singapore recruits for a well-established hedge fund focused on fundamental investing and disciplined risk management. The role manages a Japan-focused long/short equity portfolio within an institutional platform.

Candidates will conduct in-depth company and industry research, build detailed financial models, and present investment ideas to senior stakeholders. A minimum 6+ years buy-side experience and a strong track record in Japanese equities are required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related discipline.
• 6+ years of buy-side investment experience within hedge funds or alt investments.
• Proven track record investing in Japanese listed equities.

Job Description

• Manage and grow a Japan-focused equity long/short portfolio, identifying opportunities across sectors and market capitalisations.


• Perform in-depth company, industry, and thematic research to uncover high-conviction investment ideas.


• Develop detailed financial models, valuation analyses, and investment frameworks to support portfolio decisions.


• Source and evaluate both long and short opportunities with clearly defined investment theses and catalysts.


• Monitor portfolio exposures, risk factors, and performance drivers while maintaining disciplined portfolio construction.


• Engage with company management teams, industry participants, and market experts to enhance investment insights.


• Present investment recommendations, portfolio updates, and market views to senior investment stakeholders.

The Successful Applicant

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.


• 6+ years of buy-side investment experience within hedge funds, asset managers, family offices, or alternative investment firms.


• Demonstrated experience investing in Japanese listed equities.


• Strong track record of generating investment ideas that contribute meaningfully to portfolio performance.


• Exceptional fundamental research, financial modelling, and valuation skills.


• Deep understanding of equity markets, corporate analysis, and investment processes.


• Ability to make independent investment decisions while collaborating effectively within a broader investment team.
