Responsibilities

This role requires excellent Japanese language skills (reading, writing, and speaking) as these are essential for communication and business operations. You will conduct in-depth research on Japanese listed companies, generate investment recommendations, and contribute to our alpha generation. This role demands strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and native-level Japanese language proficiency.

• Conduct in-depth fundamental research on Japanese listed companies across various sectors, focusing on identifying investment opportunities and risks.
• Build and maintain financial models to analyse company performance, valuations, and industry trends.
• Generate investment recommendations based on thorough analysis and due diligence.
• Monitor and analyse macroeconomic data and market trends relevant to the Japanese equity market.
• Conduct company meetings and industry conferences to gather information and insights.
• Prepare detailed research reports and presentations for the investment team.
• Maintain a deep understanding of Japanese accounting standards, corporate governance, and regulatory landscape.
• Collaborate effectively with other members of the investment team and contribute to the overall investment process.

Qualifications

• Language Skills: Native or near-native fluency in Japanese (reading, writing, and speaking) or Japanese-Language Proficiency Test N1 or N2, in order to liaise with Japanese speaking stakeholders.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree.
• CFA designation or progress towards CFA is a plus.
• Experience: 2-5 years of investment research experience at a buy‑side or sell‑side firm, with a focus on Japanese equities.
• Exceptional analytical and financial modelling skills.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, valuation methodologies, and investment principles.
