Job summary

The Public Service Division is seeking an officer to champion environmentally sustainable planning and design for JTC industrial estates in Singapore. You will drive ecologically friendly design practices, including biophilic and nature-based solutions, aligned with our Sustainability by Planning & Design workstream.

Qualifications

• Officers with relevant disciplines in Engineering/Architecture/Planning.
• Work experience in Environmental Planning, Ecological Studies or Landscape Architecture is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Strengthen in-house capabilities in developing conceptual plans and designs for environmental design scope (landscape master plan, streetscape, green/blue infrastructure) as part of master planning and urban design for JTC estates.
• Collaborate with internal divisions in planning sustainable estates, including analysis and mitigation measures for biodiversity, wetlands, habitats, and nature-based solutions.
• Liaise with agencies to establish or review environmental design frameworks, processes and policies (Green Cover, LUSH, WSUD, GreenMark).
• Oversee projects through the government’s EIA framework, balancing biodiversity with development needs.

Job description

[What the role is]

To champion the importance of environmentally sustainable, ecologically friendly designs and best practices as aligned with the Sustainability by Planning & Design workstream.

To establish environmentally sustainable and ecologically friendly planning and design related strategies, standards, methodologies, best practices and solutions that are relevant to JTC industrial estates and developments e.g. biophilic design, nature-based solutions, etc.

[What you will be working on]

• Strengthen in-house capabilities in developing conceptual plans and designs for environmental design related scope i.e. landscape master plan, streetscape, integrated green and blue infrastructure as part of the master planning and urban design for JTC industrial estates and developments
• Work closely with the relevant internal divisions in the planning and design of environmentally sustainable and ecologically friendly JTC industrial estates and developments, including analysis and assessment of potential impact and practical mitigation measures/solutions e.g. preservation and conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity; nature based solutions to manage of surface run off, flood zones and coastal erosion zones; assessment on impact to wetlands and habitats, etc.
• Liaise with relevant agencies to establish or review environmental design related frameworks, processes and policies e.g. Green Cover, LUSH, WSUD, GreenMark, etc.
• Oversee the various projects in JTC that go through the government’s EIA framework, and work with the relevant JTC Divisions, the nature groups and other relevant stakeholders to find the balance between preserving areas with rich biodiversity and development on JTC estates to meet Singapore’s needs such as economic growth and food resilience.
