Job summary

GrabTaxi Holdings Pte. Ltd. is seeking a Principal Engineer for Payments to lead the architecture and delivery of regional payments platforms across Southeast Asia. You will design fault-tolerant, compliant services supporting wallet transactions, checkouts, payouts, and real-time transfers.

You will mentor senior engineers, partner with Product, Risk, Compliance, Finance, and country teams, and report to the Head of Engineering, FundsCore. This is a 5-day onsite role at Grab One-North.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Computer Science or related is required.
• 10+ years in software, including 5+ in senior/lead roles delivering complex systems.
• Experience with AI tooling to accelerate development.
• Advanced in Java, Go, or Python, with strong coding and testing discipline.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and microservices: decomposition, reliability, scale.
• Extensive hands-on work in payments (auth/capture, settlement, recon, ledger, payouts, refunds/disputes, orchestration).
• Strong SQL/NoSQL skills with financial data modeling, consistency, and reconciliation.
• Proven integrations with card networks, banks, APMs, and real-time rails.
• Security/compliance: PCI DSS, encryption/KMS, privacy, and KYC/AML.
• Cloud: AWS/Azure/GCP multi-region, multi-tenant, cost efficiency.
• DevOps/SRE practices: CI/CD, IaC, observability, incident response, and SLOs.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-team leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own design and delivery of mission-critical payment systems with high availability and low latency.
• Define core payments architecture and drive platformization with stable APIs and data models.
• Build resilient integrations to payment networks, banks, and real-time rails.
• Champion reliability, observability, security, and cost with SRE and Security.
• Lead regionalization across currency and regulation with safe rollouts and migrations.
• Make data-driven decisions and align stakeholders on trade-offs.
• Author and review design docs, lead architecture reviews, set standards.
• Mentor engineers and scale best practices across the team.
