Role Overview
We are looking for a Payment Compliance professional to support the assessment and development of new and evolving payment business
models across Trip.com’s global operations. This role focuses on payment regulatory advisory, licensing analysis, new product assessment and regulatory interpretation. It is not primarily an AML operations role. The successful candidate will work closely with Business, Product, Legal, Compliance and external counsel to understand proposed business models, assess applicable payment regulatory requirements, identify licensing and compliance risks, and develop practical solutions that enable the business to operate within an appropriate regulatory framework. The role requires someone who can move beyond identifying regulatory requirements and translate regulation into practical business solutions and compliant operating models.
In this Role, you’ll get to
- Payment Regulatory & Licensing Advisory: Assess payment business models across jurisdictions, interpret applicable regulations and licensing requirements, identify regulatory risks, and provide practical compliance advice.
- Business Model & Payment Flow Analysis: Analyse contractual arrangements, fund flows, settlement structures, data flows and stakeholder relationships to identify regulatory implications and recommend compliant business solutions.
- New Product Approval & Risk Assessment: Conduct pre-launch regulatory assessments, identify licensing requirements and compliance risks, document decisions and conditions, and track remediation actions.
- External Counsel & Regulatory Engagement: Coordinate external legal counsel, critically evaluate legal opinions, translate advice into actionable recommendations, and support regulatory communications and submissions.
- Stakeholder Management: Partner with Business, Product, Legal, Compliance and other stakeholders to address regulatory issues, challenge proposals constructively and deliver commercially viable solutions.
- Management Reporting & Governance: Prepare regulatory assessments, decision papers and management reports, and develop compliance frameworks, procedures and assessment methodologies.
- AI-Enabled Regulatory Research: Leverage AI and regulatory research tools for regulatory analysis, horizon scanning and jurisdictional comparisons, validating conclusions against authoritative sources and independent professional judgement.
What you’ll Need to Succeed
- Professional Experience: Approximately 5–7 years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance, payment licensing, fintech, banking or financial services, with hands‑on exposure to payment regulations and business model assessments.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of payment regulatory frameworks, licensing requirements and regulatory interpretation; AML/CFT knowledge is advantageous but deep operational experience is not required.
- Business & Product Advisory: Proven experience advising Business and Product teams on regulatory risks, payment flows, new products and complex commercial arrangements.
- Regulatory Analysis: Strong research, analytical and judgement skills, with the ability to interpret legislation, identify regulatory implications and develop practical solutions beyond checklist‑based assessments.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong communication, influencing and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage senior management, business stakeholders, external counsel and regulators.
- Execution & Problem‑Solving: Ability to manage multiple regulatory projects, navigate ambiguity and deliver clear, commercially practical recommendations in a fast‑paced environment.
- Language Proficiency: Professional proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively across regions and cultures.
- Education & Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline. A legal qualification or relevant compliance and regulatory certifications is an advantage.
