Qualifications

• Master's and/or Ph.D. in Fine Art, Design, Media Arts, Curatorial Practice, Design Research, or related field.
• Experience teaching at undergraduate level is preferred.
• Experience supervising practice-based research or theses.
• Candidates with Bachelor's degree plus substantial professional experience may be considered in exceptional cases.

Job description

The School of Art, Design, and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, invites qualified candidates to apply as Part-time Lecturer for DM3010 Project Development and Planning.

The Part-time Lecturer is expected to teach an undergraduate course commencing in January of 2027.

Project Development and Planning is a studio course that focuses on the development and planning of the Final Year Thesis project. It is designed for the third year student who will soon face the need to define and execute his or her Final Year Project (FYP). Students develop a project plan and learn to understand critical project phases, forming an understanding of time and resource constraints as they plan their FYP. The course supports students in understanding their works in the terms of a project and in using appropriate planning methodology, culminating in a working proposal for the FYP by the end of the course. Students learn various techniques that help them plan their final year project. Field trips, topical lectures and guest speakers are introduced throughout the course so that students are exposed to examples of project conceptualization, design and exhibition development. Students undertake case studies across a range of themes and topics, selecting research methodologies appropriate to each, and form a strategy to further the development of their own project, acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to continue their investigation as they work towards a response. Emphasis is placed on practice-based enquiry, constructive class discussion and critique, and the presentation of a final response describing analysis, strategy, design process and proposed solution.

Class structure will vary and is in large part determined by the nature of the topic and the nature of the design response. Maturity and the ability to work independently are expected in this course, which prepares students for the Final Year Project and for professional practice in the creative industries. Successful candidates will have a Master's and/or Ph.D. in Fine Art, Design, Media Arts, Curatorial Practice, Design Research, or a related field. Prior undergraduate teaching experience and experience supervising practice-based research or thesis projects is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in relevant disciplines and substantial professional experience in exhibition, project development or creative practice may be considered in exceptional cases.
