Job summary

Nxera is seeking a Data Centre Mechanical Subject Matter Expert to drive the design, development and upgrade of critical MEP systems in our data centers. You will lead calculations, equipment sizing and procurement activities while ensuring safety and performance standards are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• At least 5 years designing and maintaining data-center mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of large-scale electrical infrastructure systems.
• Experience with fast-track design/build projects.
• Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Data Centre Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team at Nxera to unfold the new era!

Make an Impact by

• Design and develop Mechanical electrical systems for new and existing data centers, including but not limited with ACMV system, Hydraulic system and thermodynamics refrigeration cycle, Fire Protection System, Plumbing & Sanitary System, etc.
• Perform various engineering calculation (i.e. cooling load calculation, hydraulic calculation, etc.), equipment sizing (i.e. chiller, pump, cooling tower, air handler) and selection and procurement of equipment ensuring it meets safety standards and performance requirements.
• Collaborate with the core team to understand, develop and update the data centre mechanical designs, starting from basis of design (BOD), feasibility study, concept and detailed design development to issue for constructions (IFC) documents, for new data centre project buildouts and major infrastructure upgrades to all levels of testing and commissioning works.
• Perform as Mechanical engineer subject matter expert to work with consultants during concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, SAT, delivery, and installation on site. Identify and resolve issues raised by the cross-functional teams.
• Update and maintain the internal design specifications, drawings, and standards in accordance with the latest configurations and including all 'lessons learned' in relation to all equipment. Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers.
• Liaise with internal business units and external customers for technical requirement to translate into executable plan for implementation by consultant and/or contractor.
• Knowledgeable in Building Management System/DCIM, able to understand system architect and point schedule. Experience in handling BMS/DCIM enhancement project.
• Evaluate the design& construction and operation of mission-critical facilities and associated MEP components.
• To Participate and Review Data Center MEP Design and other necessary disciplines for new data center builds and data hall fitouts.
• To continually find ways to collaborate and break new ground to enhance MEP design to meet future needs. Develop innovative solutions.
• Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
• Support the DC Engineering FM team to become a Subject Matter Expert and understand how to overcome design limitations and risks.
• Interface with internal stakeholders to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
• Liaise and assist Operation team to identify/understand Electrical System issues and provide solutions.
• Perform technical design reviews and proposal for data centre first of kind systems and equipment.
• Review data centre commissioning scripts to ensure they accurately test all modes of operations. Witness key commissioning tests on site.
• Conduct site inspection and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, mechanical systems audits, and start-up as needed.
• Continually maintain positive and collaborative working relations with partner teams, vendors, teammates, and internal customers.

Skills for Success

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or relevant discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and maintaining mechanical systems for data centers or similar critical facilities
• Knowledge of large-scale mission critical facility’s Electrical infrastructure systems.
• Experience with fast-track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects.
• Fundamental knowledge in of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles, fire protection and plumbing and sanitary system.
• Ability to incorporate Renewable Energy System to the Distribution Network and strong understanding of Mechanical codes and standards.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
