1.0 General Function
The Mechanical Engineer – R&D/T will be responsible for the research, design, and development of product, innovative technologies, mechanical systems, components, and processes that improve product performance and manufacturing efficiency. The role bridges conceptual engineering and practical implementation within a production environment, supporting both new technologies applications, product development and continuous improvement initiatives
2.0 Key Responsibilities
1. Research & Innovation
- Conduct research on emerging technologies relevant (but not limited to) to the company’s product lines and production methods.
- Participate in ideation sessions and contribute to patentable innovations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into viable technologies and products applications.
2. Product Design & Process Development
- Involved in product design & engineering conceptualisation, brainstorming and development of ideas / technologies.
- Design and develop mechanical components, parts, systems, and assemblies using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk).
- Generate 3D CAD, 2D Technical Drawings, DFMEA, DMR and all relevant ISO 13485 Documents.
- Establish DOE, Testing Process and Reports for the assigned projects.
- Lead and coordinate prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
- Evaluate new materials, manufacturing techniques, and technologies for potential integration and commercialisation.
3. Manufacturing Support
- Work closely with NPI team, production and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability of designs through DFM review, mold flow analysis.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend engineering solutions.
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainability.
4. Testing & Validation
- Prepare and execute test procedures to validate performance, durability, and safety standards.
- Analyse test data, compile reports, and recommend design / process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed engineering documentation including drawings, BOM, specifications, and technical reports.
- Maintain up-to-date records in DMR (Design Master Record) systems.
- Present technical findings and project updates to and recommendations to supervisors, management and stakeholders.
6. Project Management
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking progress of assigned engineering tasks.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Prepare project documentation, meeting notes, and progress updates.
- Learn and apply project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel trackers, Gantt charts).
7. Additional Duties
- Support your reporting officer in any work-related ad-hoc duties.
- Support all digitalization initiatives in the company.
