A growing energy group is expanding its trading and risk capabilities in Singapore and is seeking to hire a Market Risk Advisor to join its energy trading business. Operating across Energy including derivatives trading, the organisation offers an opportunity to take a central role in strengthening market risk oversight within a commercially focused trading environment. This position will suit an experienced risk professional who enjoys being close to the trading floor while retaining the independence and judgement required of a robust risk function.
Reporting into the relevant leadership team, you will take ownership of market risk oversight across a portfolio of physical and financial energy products. You will provide senior management and traders with a clear view of portfolio exposures and performance, covering areas such as VaR, P&L attribution, stress and scenario testing, sensitivities, position limits, concentration and liquidity risk. A key element of the position is providing constructive challenge to trading strategies and evaluating new products, hedging approaches and structured transactions from a risk-adjusted return perspective. You will also play an important part in developing the risk infrastructure of the business, including strengthening valuation and price verification controls, refining limits and governance, enhancing management reporting, improving data quality and automation, and supporting the evolution of ETRM/CTRM and analytical tools. Working closely with Trading, Finance, Operations, Compliance and Technology, you will help establish a scalable front-to-back risk framework as the trading platform develops.
You should bring approximately around 10 years of relevant experience gained in market risk, trading risk, product control or quantitative risk within an energy or commodities environment, ideally with an integrated energy company, commodity trading house, utility or investment bank. Strong knowledge of derivatives markets is essential, including forward curves, forwards, futures, swaps, options and commodity hedging strategies, alongside hands-on experience with VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis, valuation and P&L attribution. Candidates who have previously developed or enhanced trading risk frameworks, controls and management reporting will be particularly relevant. Advanced Excel capabilities are expected, while exposure to Python, SQL, Power BI and ETRM/CTRM platforms would be advantageous. Most importantly, you should possess the commercial credibility to engage traders and senior stakeholders, combined with the independence and confidence to challenge risk-taking where appropriate.
