Job description

The Role: M&A Underwriter: Singapore

We are looking for ambitious M&A (mergers and acquisitions) Underwriter to join our APAC team, based in our Singapore office. You will work directly with the underwriting team, who evaluate M&A opportunities and businesses across industries and jurisdictions, and are recognised leaders in the transactional risk insurance space. The position will provide in-depth exposure to international M&A and the insurance industry in an entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities will include:

• Analysing M&A transactions, including reviewing financial statements, business background information, due diligence material and purchase agreements
• Managing a consistent stream of deal opportunities that consider the use of transactional risk insurance
• Preparing quotes and policies
• Developing marketing materials and presentations
• Coordinating and communicating with insurance brokers, lawyers, and clients
• Providing project management support including database administration and invoice management
• Attending industry events and training where necessary
• Review of legal, financial, tax, technical and other due diligence reports to assess risks and gaps
• Review of sale and purchase agreements and transaction structure to assess insurability, coverage parameters and prepare policy
• Conduct underwriting calls and review underwriting responses to provide policy coverage

Experience and Skills

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in law
• At least 5 years’ experience in a top tier law firm in Mumbai or New Delhi
• Fluency in English (spoken and written) is a must
• Note that this role requires you to analyse and draft technical documents (including legal and financial documents and due diligence reports) that relate to India or are in Hindi and requires you to converse and correspond with clients in India in the India time zone. Market knowledge of M&A transactions and business conduct in India, and proficiency in Hindi, at the native or full business level, is required, in addition to proficiency in the English language. You will also be required to analyse and draft technical documents in English and converse and correspond in English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of the Salesforce platform are advantageous
• The ideal candidate will be proactive, ambitious, detail-oriented, a natural team player; he/she has an international outlook and comfortable working with an international and diverse team. Preferably this should be demonstrated by working experience in a corporate setting in another country, or attending an exchange programme in another country.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
