Job summary

VDL ETG Singapore seeks a highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to design and implement subsystem-level products and guide a small design team through the lifecycle, in coordination with the European parent company.

You will validate requirements, support production, create 3D models (NX/SolidWorks), and drive qualification tests while communicating effectively in English and planning overseas travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• At least 10 years of mechanical design experience in high-precision / semiconductor environments.
• Knowledge of mechanical design principles, accurate positioning, dynamic behavior, materials properties, strength and stiffness.
• Experience with 3D design tools such as NX or SolidWorks.
• Experience with PLM systems like TeamCenter or EPDM.
• Basic knowledge of FEA for mechanical design.
• Strong conceptual thinking and problem solving.
• Excellent communication in English (speaking and writing).
• Willingness to travel overseas and collaborate with the European parent company.

Responsibilities

• Determine requirements and specifications for complex subsystem modules to meet customer needs cost-effectively.
• Create and evaluate design feasibility using 3D models, tolerances, drawings, and test procedures.
• Support production by identifying and solving design issues.
• Coordinate qualification tests in early prototypes for complex modules.
• Implement design changes to improve product/process or due to End Of Life of components.
• Manage a small design-team (1–4 engineers) within own scope.
• Independently execute tasks and report within the organization.

Able to design and implement products on a subsystem level with high complexity and solve complex design problems while managing and coaching a design team within own competence. Able to provide design solutions for products and establish product specifications to satisfy internal and customer requirements, while following and executing the Product Generation Process through the entire product life cycle including factory support.

Key Area of Responsibilities

• Determine requirements and specifications for complex modules on subsystem level to meet customer requirements in a cost-effective way
• Create and evaluate the feasibility of product design and processes with relevant software/techniques to generate respective specifications for complex modules on subsystem level such as 3D models including tolerances,2D drawings, potential test procedures
• Support the production process to identify and solve design related issues for complex modules on subsystem level
• Validate the requirements and coordinate qualification tests in the first proto's for complex modules on subsystem level
• Implement design changes 1) resulting in product- or process improvement; or 2) as a result of End Of Life for complex modules on subsystem level
• Incidentally manages small team of design engineers (1-4 pax) within own competence
• Independently carries out tasks and reports within the operational and functional organization

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a focus on construction / precision mechanics
• At least 10 years of experience in mechanical design in high precision/Semiconductor industry
• Knowledge of mechanic design principles, accurate positioning, dynamic behavior, material properties, strength and stiffness
• User of 3D design tools (e.g. NX or SolidWorks)
• User of product lifecycle management systems (e.g. TeamCenter or EPDM)
• Basic knowledge of FEA calculations in the area of mechanical design
• Helicopter view, abstract thinking and ability to think out-of-the box
• An effective communicator
• Fluent in English, both speaking and writing
• Willingness to travel overseas and cooperate with the European mother company
