Job description
Key Responsibilities:
Design Ownership & Technical Accountability
Lead and produce CNC turning and automation design solutions based on customer specific and internal specifications.
Act as design owner for assigned projects, from concept through detailed design, release, and implementation.
Sign off mechanical designs, drawings, and BOMs before release to production, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Ensure designs meet safety standards, engineering best practices, manufacturability, and serviceability requirements.
Design Governance & Error Control
Conduct design reviews, tolerance checks, risk assessments, and failure mode considerations to prevent design errors.
Identify, control, and resolve design risks, clashes, and potential production issues early in the design phase.
Ensure compliance with internal design standards, drawing practices, and documentation requirements.
Support and implement corrective actions for design related nonconformances identified during fabrication or assembly.
Engineering Design Execution
Prepare 2D and 3D mechanical drawings using CATIA, ensuring high drafting quality and clarity.
Create and manage parts explosion and BOM structures using ENOVIA.
Prepare complete fabrication and assembly documentation, including drawings, specifications, and notes.
Perform engineering calculations and evaluations to validate design solutions (strength, rigidity, fit, function).
Production & CrossFunctional Support
Provide technical support to production, machining, and assembly teams for machine and tooling modifications.
Support first build, troubleshooting, and implementation of design changes on the shop floor.
Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Service teams to ensure smooth design implementation.
Technical Leadership & Communication
Mentor and technically guide junior design engineers, providing design feedback and review support.
Deliver engineering presentations for design reviews, project updates, and technical discussions.
Act as a key technical interface with internal stakeholders on design matters.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 7–10 years of solid, hands on experience in mechanical design engineering.
Proficient in 3D & 2D CAD (CATIA mandatory).
Strong experience with BOM management in ENOVIA.
Solid understanding of:
Machine mechanisms
Material strength and selection
Manufacturing methods and tolerancing
Experience supporting machine modification, retrofitting, or customisation projects.
Excellent problem solving skills and ability to work with complex mechanical systems.
