Job summary

Neo Research in Singapore is seeking a Lead Research Scientist to set the research agenda and build a program that shapes frontier-model safety. You will own projects end-to-end and influence both methodological standards and external collaborations.

Ideal candidates lead with rigorous judgment, publish results, and mentor researchers while steering Neo’s research culture as the organization grows globally from Singapore-based roots.

Qualifications

• Track record of original research in AI safety, model evaluations, ML, or closely related field.
• Strong understanding of frontier-model behaviour and evaluation or elicitation methodology.
• Ability to turn broad problems into concrete research programmes and published results.
• Excellent technical writing and ability to communicate with researchers, engineers, and external partners.
• Comfort operating in an early-stage environment where important questions are not fully settled.
• Collaborative working style and willingness to stay hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Set and evolve Neo's research agenda, deciding where researchers, engineers, compute, and collaborations can have the greatest impact.
• Lead major research projects from problem selection to publication.
• Develop rigorous approaches to studying difficult-to-observe frontier-model behaviours.
• Guide and mentor researchers, review experimental designs and results, uphold a high evidence bar.
• Work with research engineers to turn questions into robust experimental systems.
• Build collaborations with AI Safety Institutes, frontier labs, academics, and model developers; represent Neo's research externally.
• Help recruit exceptional researchers and shape Neo's research culture as the organization grows.
