Job summary

Google Singapore is seeking a Share Staff Research Scientist, AI Alignment to lead regional AI safety research. You will set research agendas, manage deadlines, and collaborate across teams to apply theory to scalable systems.

This role emphasizes advancing AI alignment and coordinating expert teams across APAC. Applicants should hold a PhD in CS or related field with 4+ years across multiple projects, and demonstrated ML expertise in safety, robustness and cutting-edge models.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4 years of experience with research agendas across multiple teams or projects.
• Experience in machine learning, adversarial ML or evaluating frontier AI systems (supervised, unsupervised, RL, interpretability, robustness, safety, generative models, agentic AI, multi-objective optimization).
• One or more scientific publication submissions to conferences, journals, or public repositories (CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead researcher for regional AI safety research, defining a foundational research agenda in AI alignment and developing advanced computational intelligence technology.
• Lead local interactions and liaise with APAC academic institutions, government bodies, and external stakeholders to coordinate joint research partnerships.
• Oversee integration of localized safety breakthroughs and evaluation protocols into core engineering frameworks and frontier AI models.
• Collaborate with regional engineering teams, global research pillars, and cross-functional partners to navigate technology policy and regulatory landscapes.
• Publish foundational research in scientific venues and represent Google in regional research forums; mentor students or visiting researchers.
