Job summary

The National University of Singapore seeks a veterinary care professional to provide comprehensive care for laboratory animals under the NUS animal care and use program. You will support researchers and clinicians in day-to-day veterinary activities, including after-hours coverage and training for staff.

Key duties include preventive medicine, health monitoring, clinical case attendance, anesthesia, imaging, and necropsy support, along with meticulous record-keeping and inventory management.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Bioscience, Biotechnology or equivalent discipline.
• Ability to perform basic veterinary technical procedures in animals.
• Effective written, verbal communication and organizational skills.
• English fluency in spoken and written form.
• Experience with rodents, rabbits, pigs and/or aquatic species, especially large animals.
• Experience in animal care and use programs in research/teaching/training is preferred.
• AALAS certification is an asset.
• Ability and experience to train is an asset.
• Surgery-related certificate (SRA/SRT/SRS) is a plus.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel and databases; able to lift up to 15 kg.
• Holding a Class 3 driving license is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care and medical service for all laboratory animals.
• Assist clinical veterinarians in day-to-day veterinary activities.
• Perform preventive medicine and health monitoring, including sample collection.
• Conduct daily health checks and attend clinical cases observed or reported.
• Assist in medical treatments, care, monitoring and record-keeping.
• Assist in veterinary procedures including surgery, anesthesia, imaging, and necropsy.
• Maintain inventory and medical records; operate CM pharmacy service.
• Provide training and hands-on instruction to care staff and researchers.
• Support animal experiments and large animal research procedures as needed.
• Operate diagnostic imaging equipment where applicable and assist in sample analysis.
• Transport non-rodent animals as required and maintain laboratory records.
