Join Metalcool as a Junior Tooling Engineer to develop hands-on expertise in cutting-tool manufacturing through inspection, job preparation, 2D drafting, CNC programming, and production coordination.
Inspect incoming cutting tools, review customer drawings, tool samples, order requirements, and internal records to ensure accuracy and compliance
Identify and resolve missing, conflicting, or unclear technical information by obtaining necessary clarifications before job release
Prepare and revise 2D cutting-tool drawings to support manufacturing needs as technical skills develop
Learn to create CNC tool-grinding programs using Walter Tool Studio and ANCA iGrind software, ensuring alignment with work orders and job instructions
Submit drawings and CNC programs for senior engineer verification prior to production release
Prepare comprehensive production work orders for new-tool manufacturing and tool regrinding, including bills of materials (BOMs), production routings, and clear job instructions
Verify completeness and consistency of BOMs, routings, materials, job instructions, drawings, and CNC programs before production release
Retrieve and verify raw materials from the storeroom, organizing them with work-order documents for operator collection
Maintain accurate filing, revision control, and traceability of production engineering records to support quality and audit requirements
Collaborate with production teams to support program trials, implement corrections, and drive process improvements
Gain supervised exposure to machine operations to understand how tool geometry, drawings, and programs translate into grinding processes
Work closely with production personnel to resolve technical questions and enhance manufacturing instruction clarity
Incorporate approved production and inspection feedback into work orders, drawings, and CNC programs to improve accuracy and efficiency
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, and tolerances
Strong numerical and spatial reasoning skills demonstrated through systematic and careful work habits
Effective communication skills to clearly report discrepancies and technical questions without assumptions
Comfortable working in both office and production-floor environments
Prior experience in precision engineering or manufacturing environments
Exposure to CNC machining, grinding, or related manufacturing processes
The role offers progressive learning in cutting-tool geometry, manufacturing, regrinding processes, technical work-order preparation, BOM generation, routing, job-release controls, 2D drafting, drawing revision control, and CNC programming with Walter Tool Studio and ANCA iGrind
The scope of responsibilities will expand based on demonstrated accuracy, technical understanding, checking discipline, and ability to work independently
