Job summary

Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore invites interns to co-develop ICT systems that enhance how taxpayers connect with IRAS. You will work on 1–2 projects involving data science, software engineering and ML technologies to deliver solutions aligned with business goals.

During a 6-month internship (Jan–May/Jun 2027), you’ll gain hands-on experience with data pipelines, stakeholder collaboration, and presenting results to leadership, while building robust data infrastructures.

What the role is:

At IRAS, we aim to be a leading tax agency known for our efficient services, expertise and integrity. We are looking for committed team players to co-develop the next generation of ICT systems that improve how millions of taxpayers connect and interact with us. The interns will work on 1 to 2 application/model development projects, and/or data engineering work.These projects will require hands‑on work with modern data science, software engineering, and machine learning technologies to deliver impactful solutions aligned with business goals.

What you will be working on:

• The interns will be given opportunities to: Understand the landscape of data science and AI in IRAS Engage business users to understand their needs and requirements
• Develop/enhance applications/models based on user requirements
• Build data pipelines to meet users/applications needs
• Present their projects at key management meetings

By the end of the internship, interns will have developed:

• A comprehensive understanding of application development / machine learning lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Hands‑on experience in stakeholder management, learning how to bridge communication between technical terms and business users to deliver impactful solutions.
• The ability to translate complex business problems into software/model/data solutions that align with organisational objectives.
• Practical skills in modern data engineering techniques and tools to build robust and scalable data infrastructures.
• Confidence in presenting technical work and progrss to key stakeholders and leadership, enhancing professional communication skills.

What we are looking for:

• Strong foundation in software engineering and/or machine learning and/or big data technologies, demonstrated through coursework, projects, or prior experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Good self-management skills, including an ability to be self-directed to meet project deadlines
