Job summary

Siemens is seeking an Industrial AI & Software Engineering Intern to explore how industrial systems, data, and software converge in Industry 4.0 environments. You will gain hands-on experience with backend development, data engineering, applied AI, data modelling and foundational industrial connectivity concepts using realistic industrial data and architectures.

Job description

We are looking for an Industrial AI & Software Engineering Intern who is interested in how industrial systems, data, and software come together in modern Industry 4.0 environments. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to backend development, data engineering, applied AI, industrial data modelling, and foundational industrial connectivity concepts, using realistic industrial‑style data and architectures.

You'll make a difference by:

• Developing backend solutions: Build backend services, scripts and REST APIs using Python, Node.js or similar technologies to process and integrate industrial data.
• Building industrial data pipelines: Work with sensor and time‑series data, operational events, logs, alarms and asset information to develop data models and data pipelines for industrial applications.
• Applying data science and AI: Explore, clean and prepare industrial datasets, then apply statistical analysis, machine learning and introductory AI techniques to identify patterns, anomalies and trends.
• Supporting AI experimentation: Contribute to model selection, training, experimentation, evaluation, testing and validation, with exposure to deployment through batch jobs, services and APIs.
• Exploring industrial connectivity: Learn how data flows between industrial equipment, edge systems, applications and enterprise platforms, and apply these concepts in Industry 4.0 use cases.
• Contributing to intelligent solutions: Support proof‑of‑concepts and demonstrations involving intelligent monitoring, industrial data contextualisation and agent‑based AI, while clearly documenting designs, assumptions, experiments and results.

Your defining qualities:

• Relevant academic background: Currently pursuing a diploma, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related field.
• Programming fundamentals: Basic programming experience in Python, JavaScript or a similar programming language.
• Interest in backend and data technologies: Keen to develop practical skills in backend systems, data engineering and data‑driven applications.
• Curiosity about AI: Interested in applying data science, machine learning and AI techniques to practical problems and real‑world datasets.
• Interest in industrial technology: Curious about industrial systems, data flows, connectivity and Industry 4.0 environments.
• Learning mindset: Willing to learn across software development, data, AI, connectivity and industrial technology in a hands‑on environment.
