Job summary

Southern Palladium Limited is seeking a compassionate healthcare support assistant to care for clients in daily activities and therapy sessions. You will monitor safety, assist with ADLs and wound care, and support therapists during sessions in a client-centred environment.

The role requires basic education and a WSQ Healthcare Support certificate, with a preference for dementia care experience and strong communication skills. On-site work, with team collaboration and regular staff meetings.

Qualifications

• Secondary education or equivalent required.
• WSQ Certificate in Healthcare Support (Nursing Care) or equivalent preferred.
• Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork.
• Experience caring for clients with dementia preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure client safety and never leave clients unattended.
• Provide person-centred care in daily operations.
• Monitor clients during treatment for safety and comfort.
• Assist with ADLs (e.g., urinary catheterization, drainage care) and accompany clients to toilet.
• Support clients with other nursing care or first aid (e.g., wound dressing).
• Prepare clients and therapy equipment before sessions.
• Assist/group session activities as directed by therapists.
• Don PPE/CPE for prosthetics/orthotics as needed.
• Provide feedback to therapists on client behaviour.
• Maintain and report on therapy equipment cleanliness and maintenance.
• Keep department clean and secure after hours.
• Collaborate with volunteers supporting client activities.
• Attend staff meetings and case conferences as required.
• Perform any other duties as directed.

Job description

• To ensure the safety and well-being of the clients under your care at all times. To be aware of safety procedures and never to leave clients unattended.
• To provide person-centric model of care in daily operations.
• To monitor clients during treatment to ensure their safety.
• Assist clients in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) activities (e.g., urinary catheterization and urinary drainage system care), accompany clients to the toilet and assist them in elimination needs if necessary.
• To assist clients with other nursing care or first aid (e.g., wound dressing).
• Preparing clients and therapy equipment before each therapy session.
• To assist and/or conduct routine exercises/ group therapy/ activities session as formatted by the therapists.
• Donning and doffing of prosthetics, orthotics etc. when necessary.
• To provide necessary feedback/ information with regards to clients’ behaviour to the therapist.
• To be responsible for up keeping and maintenance of all therapy equipment and report any maintenance and repair required of the equipment.
• To maintain the cleanliness of the department.
• To ensure that the department is locked up at the end of the day.
• To work in liaison with the volunteers who are helping in client activities/sessions.
• To attend and contribute regularly during Staff meetings, Case conferences, In-service and client/caregiver support programmes.
• Any other duties as directed as and when required.

REQUIREMENTS

• At a minimum completion of Secondary education or equivalent
• WSQ Certificate in Healthcare Support (Nursing Care) or relevant certificate preferred.
• A team player with good interpersonal communications skills
• Experience in caring for clients with dementia preferred.
