Job summary

Maybank seeks a senior technology leader to head the Core Platforms domain, covering core banking systems, cards, payments, and data platforms. You will own end-to-end lifecycle from build to run to evolve, ensuring resilience and scalability while driving cloud adoption and data enablement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of technology leadership experience in banking or financial services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end architecture, development, delivery, and operations of core banking platforms.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and resilience of critical platforms.
  • Drive platform stability, service reliability, and production controls.
  • Oversee large-scale initiatives: upgrades, modernisation, simplification.
  • Define enterprise data platform strategy incl. data warehouses and data lakes.
  • Enable data-driven capabilities through analytics and AI/ML adoption.
  • Strengthen data governance and quality with Data Office and Risk.
  • Drive cloud-native and real-time platform architectures.
  • Partner with business to unlock insights and data use cases.
  • Lead transformation programmes across Core Banking, Payments, Cards, Data platforms.
  • Strengthen engineering practices: DevSecOps, automation.
  • Align evolution with target-state architecture with EA.
  • Deliver resilience, scalability, and cost optimisation.
  • Oversee vendor and system integrator relationships.

Job description

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), you will lead the Core Platforms domain, encompassing core banking systems, cards, payments, enterprise data platforms, and other mission-critical foundational services.

You will hold end-to-end accountability for the full lifecycle of business-critical platforms - build, run, and evolve - ensuring stability, resilience, and scalability. You will also drive platform modernisation, cloud adoption, and enterprise data enablement initiatives.

Balancing operational excellence ("run the bank") with strategic transformation ("change the bank"), you will advance legacy platform modernisation, strengthen resilience and control frameworks, and enable data-driven capabilities across the organisation. You will partner closely with business, risk, and Group stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and future-ready platforms aligned with regulatory and strategic priorities.

This role is pivotal in anchoring the Bank’s core technology backbone and will directly influence operational resilience, regulatory posture, and the Bank’s ability to scale its digital and data capabilities

Responsibilities:

Core Platforms & Application Leadership

  • Accountable for end-to-end architecture, development, delivery, and operations of core banking platforms and enterprise systems
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and resilience of platforms supporting critical business functions
  • Drive continuous improvement in platform stability, service reliability, and production controls
  • Oversee large-scale platform initiatives, including upgrades, modernisation, and simplification
  • Define and lead enterprise data platform strategy, including data warehouses, data lakes, and analytics infrastructure
  • Enable advanced data-driven capabilities through enterprise analytics and AI/ML adoption
  • Strengthen data governance, quality, lineage, and accessibility in partnership with Data Office and Risk
  • Drive adoption of modern data architectures, including cloud-native and real-time platforms
  • Partner with business stakeholders to unlock insights and new data use cases

Platform Modernisation & Transformation

  • Lead multi-year transformation programmes across Core Banking, Payments, Cards, and Data platforms towards modular, API-driven, and cloud-enabled architectures
  • Strengthen engineering practices, including DevSecOps, automation, and scalable design principles
  • Align platform evolution with target-state architecture in partnership with Enterprise Architecture
  • Deliver measurable outcomes in resilience, scalability, and cost optimisation
  • Drive adoption of platform-centric operating models aligned to business and digital strategies

Technology Resilience & Risk Management

  • Oversee platform-level technology risk and control environment in compliance with MAS and Group requirements
  • Enforce architecture governance, standards, and robust security controls
  • Lead remediation of audit findings, control gaps, and regulatory directives
  • Enhance production governance frameworks to reduce operational risk exposure
  • Strengthen disaster recovery, resilience testing, change management, and incident response capabilities
  • Act as senior accountable owner during major incidents and crisis situations
  • Manage large-scale technology budgets, investment portfolios, and cost optimisation initiatives
  • Drive value-based investment decisions and financial discipline across platforms
  • Oversee strategic vendor and system integrator relationships
  • Build ecosystem partnerships to support innovation and transformation

Stakeholder & Business Partnership

  • Partner with Business, Digital, and Product teams to support growth and innovation through platform capabilities
  • Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, and Audit to ensure strong governance and regulatory alignment
  • Engage Group Technology and external partners on platform strategy and shared services
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on platform health, risks, and transformation progress

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and develop high-performing teams across engineering, data, and platform operations
  • Build technical depth and leadership bench strength, including succession planning
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and engineering excellence
  • Drive adoption of agile delivery and DevOps practices

Requirements:
