Job summary

Markel is offering a graduate underwriting programme based in Singapore that combines on-the-job experience, technical and professional skills training, and support for professional qualifications. The programme includes rotations, mentoring, and opportunities to work with underwriting teams across London and Asia Pacific, with a potential secondment to London HQ.

Responsibilities

• Participate in structured training conducted by senior employees to learn insurance fundamentals.
• Perform back-office operations to support underwriters (administrative tasks, data management).
• Learn terms and acronyms used by insurance specialists.
• Learn how to assess, rate, quote and underwrite client risk.
• Attend lunches and events to build relationships with brokers and clients and deliver good customer service.
• Collaborate with departments such as finance, actuarial and compliance to complete tasks.
• Data entry using various systems, including Microsoft Excel.
• Study towards a credible Singapore College of Insurance qualification.
• Attend regular check-ins to review performance and progress to greater autonomy.
