About our client company
Our client is a growing logistics, warehousing, and supply chain solutions company serving customers across commercial and life science distribution sectors with end-to-end 3PL capabilities. On behalf of our client, we are looking for a General Manager to lead their commercial and logistics operations, drive business development, and spearhead market expansion as the company scales.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The General Manager leads the Logistics and Business Development functions within the Commercial Division, with full responsibility for market expansion, revenue growth and strategic customer acquisition. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this senior leadership role oversees end-to-end logistics, warehousing, and supply chain operations while building and developing a high-performing team aligned with the company's strategic and operational objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Business Development & Commercial Growth
- Define and lead the company's business development and commercial growth strategy in alignment with group-level objectives.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new markets, strategic partnerships, and revenue opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, industry partners, and stakeholders.
- Lead pricing strategy, contract negotiations, and bid/tender processes to win profitable business.
- Oversee sales and BD teams, set performance targets, and drive execution.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activities to continuously refine growth strategy.
2. Strategic Leadership & Business Planning
- Define and execute the company's overall commercial and operational strategy.
- Lead annual business planning, budgeting, and performance review cycles.
- Drive digital adoption, process improvements, and continuous transformation initiatives.
- Support implementation of systems (WMS, TMS, ERP) to enhance visibility, scalability and efficiency.
3. Operational & Service Excellence
- Provide executive leadership over day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, quality and service reliability.
- Strengthen warehouse, distribution, and value-added service capabilities through modernisation and optimisation.
- Improve planning, demand forecasting, stock accuracy, and resource allocation to enhance profitability.
- Develop logistics strategies that enhance service levels while reducing cost-to-serve.
- Own and manage the company's P&L, ensuring sustainable revenue growth and cost discipline.
- Develop, monitor, and report on budgets, forecasts, and cost structures.
- Evaluate and approve capital expenditure and operational investments.
- Optimise revenue streams, pricing models, and profit margins.
5. People Leadership & Performance Culture
- Lead, mentor, and develop leadership teams across commercial, operations, and support functions.
- Build a performance-driven culture centred on accountability, customer focus, and execution excellence.
- Implement workforce planning, performance management, and capability development frameworks.
- Strengthen cross-functional collaboration across the organisation.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, health and safety, quality, and company policies.
- Maintain strong operational controls, risk mitigation, and business continuity readiness.
- Safeguard organisational assets, data confidentiality, and customer information.
7. Stakeholder Engagement & Group Alignment
- Act as the senior representative in customer, partner, and industry engagements.
- Provide regular strategic updates and insights to the Director of Operations and group leadership.
- Ensure alignment with group-level strategies and shared services frameworks.
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in logistics, warehousing (including 3PL), supply chain, life science distribution, or business development.
- Proven success in P&L management, commercial strategy, and operational leadership.
- Strong ability to translate strategy into actionable, measurable plans.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, growing, and evolving business environment.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
- Strong knowledge of warehousing, transport operations, and supply chain systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills; solutions-oriented mindset.
