Job summary

Singapore Management University is seeking a finance professional to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for the institute. The role includes managing grant funds, procurement oversight, and ensuring compliance with university policies while delivering staff training on finance and administration.

Ideal candidates will have 5–8 years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with SAP Concur/SAP Ariba, Excel and Oracle.

Qualifications

• Diploma/ Degree in accountancy, finance, business or management.
• Proficiency in financial analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Proficiency in financial software and tools such as SAP Concur, SAP Ariba, Excel, Oracle.
• Strong knowledge in budget, grant administration and financial management principles.
• Ability to analyze and interpret financial data to provide insights and recommendations for decision-making.
• Experience with financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements and regulatory compliance.
• Adaptable technical skillsets with experience in in-house application systems.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey financial information and analysis to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Drive budgeting and forecasting exercises.
• Manage day-to-day financial operations, including budget expenditure control, revenue collection, and financial reporting.
• Ensure finances align with approved workplans and SMU financial regulations.
• Undertake financial and performance analysis to align actual results with strategic plans.
• Manage, track, and report on grants received and funds under management.
• Oversee procurement activities in line with university policies and controls.
• Ensure compliance with university financial policies and controls; liaise with auditors.
• Provide training and advisory on financial, procurement and administrative issues to staff.
• Review discrepancies and implement improvements in finance, procurement and administrative policies and controls.
