Job summary

Tower Transit Singapore Pte Ltd is seeking a Workshop Team Leader to manage the engineering team and coordinate both planned and unplanned maintenance. You will monitor external contractors, ensure compliance with vehicle maintenance standards, and deputise for the Workshop Planning Manager when needed.

The role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement within a busy workshop environment. Weekend and shift flexibility is expected.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent as a minimum
  • Valid full PCV licence and forklift licence, if required
  • Able to work weekend and early/late shifts
  • Possess a valid Class 4A/4/5 Driving license - if not, obatin within 12 months

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily team briefings and safety talks
  • Mentor and supervise assigned staff

Job description

SUMMARY:

To ensure all vehicle servicing and maintenance is carried out in line with the planned schedule, managing the unscheduled work in a manner that maximises vehicle uptime and workshop productivity to a standard that ensures safe, clean and reliable vehicles are provided to operations within set budgetary guidelines. In meeting this prime objective, full compliance with all Company policies and procedures are mandatory with particular reference to health, safety and environmental legislation.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
  • Responsible for allocation of planned and unplanned work to the engineering team ensuring efficient and productive use of all available resources.
  • Monitor the performance of external contractors undertaking vehicle maintenance and repair to ensure quality of work and compliance with vehicle maintenance standards.
  • Responsible and capable of deputising for the Workshop Planning Manager when required.
  • Responsible for implementing the disciplinary procedure up to and including issuing of warnings. To include conducting preliminary investigations and producing associated reports.
  • Responsible for monitoring engineering staff levels of attendance and dealing with individuals who do not meet the required standard.
  • Responsible for controlling and managing overtime in line with engineering budgets.
  • To develop and foster a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving amongst the engineering staff.
  • Responsible for control of the engineering materials budget, ensuring that staff adhere to the company authorisation procedures for material issue and use on vehicles.
  • Identify and establish reasons for poor vehicle component performance, formally reporting such incidences to the Workshop Planning Manager with the full facts and implications.
  • Carry out the full range of engineering supervisory duties in compliance with Company policies and procedures as per the examples listed;
  • Carry out vehicle inspection and work standard audits.
  • Carry out vehicle pre-service check audits.
  • Monitor the vehicle nightly servicing and cleaning operation to ensure satisfactory standards in all respects.
  • Supervise external contractors during maintenance and repair of depot plant and equipment ensuring safe working throughout.
  • Ensure that all parts are correctly booked out of stores providing all information required that enables a detailed computerised issues record to be generated.
  • Ensure all old parts are returned to the stores in a satisfactory and complete condition, fully labelled with all the required details recorded.
  • Ensure that vehicle maintenance is carried out in accordance with both company and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained with all tools and equipment returned to the designated storage place.
  • Manage the vehicle status board and update the daily depot log to facilitate workshop planning.
  • Carry out skills assessments of all engineering staff, going on to develop and deliver training plans for each member of the team with the support of the Diagnostic Technician as competencies might dictate.
  • Proactively liaise with the customer, the Operations Department, to deal safely and efficiently with vehicle changeovers and breakdowns to minimise lost mileage and disruption to the service.
  • Carry out daily team briefings to discuss the engineering and depot based performance, review problems encountered, identify solutions and look ahead to the forthcoming workload and challenges.
  • Deliver tool box talks and safety briefings to engineering staff on both a planned and adhoc basis, as directed by the EM.
  • Be proactive in identifying and repairing vehicles with repeat defects.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties at the request of your Line Manager.
  • Undertake any training and development activities at the request of your Line Manager.
  • Maintain good housekeeping, safety and security of workshop and work areas
  • Ensure compliance with all workshop procedures, safe work practices and work instructions
  • Mentor and supervise assigned staff under your charge.
  • Ensure Zero Industrial accident and compliance to all statutory and or governmental regulations
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, CONDITIONS SPECIFICATION:
  • Able to competently lead and manage a team of Engineers to maximise productivity whilst maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
  • Man management, leadership and organisational skills are important and essential qualities that are relevant to the role.
  • Knowledge of all the legislation relevant and necessary for running a safe and reliable vehicle fleet and engineering workshop.
  • Conversant with the requirements that ensure safe and legally compliant operation of all workshop and depot plant and equipment.
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent as a minimum.
  • To hold and retain a valid full PCV licence and forklift licence, if required.
  • Required to work weekend and early / late shifts.
  • Minimally possess a NITEC in Automotive Technology, Mechatronics or equivalent
  • Possess a valid Class 4A / 4 / 5 Driving license - if not, will be required to obtain within 12 months of commencing employment in the position

  • To adhere to all Tower Transit policies and procedures.
  • To take care of your own safety and the safety of others at all times by complying with your responsibilities, particularly in relation to Health and Safety, as outlined in the Company policies and procedures and under the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974.
  • To report to your Line Manager or a Supervisor any injury, collision of dangerous occurrence in which you may have been involved, or are aware of having taken place at your work location, or any concern you have about health and safety issues.
