Job summary

FOCAL SEARCH PTE. LTD. seeks an experienced Naval Architect or Senior Design Engineer to lead a multi-disciplinary design team in Singapore. You will ensure designs meet contractual requirements and coordinate with classification societies and flag authorities.

You will manage weight control, inclining processes and collaborate with senior management to deliver high-quality ship designs, while upholding regulatory standards and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Formal training in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
• Proven track record using Aluminum in Shipbuilding.
• Minimum 7 years as Naval Architect or Senior Design Engineer.
• Minimum 5 years of design department management experience.
• Strong dispute resolution and negotiation abilities.
• Solid understanding of Flag Regulations and Classification Society Rules.
• Performance and results oriented with strong leadership.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Task Management

• Managing a team that includes engineers, naval architects, designers, and drafters.
• Offer technical and design expertise.
• Scheduling design deliverables to support the project schedule.
• Ensure that vessel designs meet all contractual requirements and specifications.
• Oversee the technical review process for the procurement of all major equipment and materials.
• Supervision of interactions with classification societies, flag states, and any other regulatory bodies.
• Responsible for successfully resolving technical issues with OEMs, clients, classification societies, and flag states.
• Technical expert in weight management and control throughout the vessel construction process.
• Technical expert in inclining experiments and lightship surveys.
• Technical Expert for Sea Trial Protocols, including loading conditions.
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Management Group, Engineering, and General Manager.
• High level contractual, negotiation and dispute resolution.
• Follow and update the company's design guidelines.
• Make ongoing design improvements that are pertinent to industry standards.

Interpersonal Management

• Effective communication entails listening intently, communicating ideas clearly, and offering helpful criticism to employees at all levels.
• Establish rapport and trust by being sincere, courteous, and trustworthy.
• Maintain communication with shipyard personnel and management to guaranty that product performance aligns with the organization's objectives.

Information Management

• Educate internal and external stakeholders and gain a thorough understanding of the performance and specifications of vessels and products.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the applicable classification and survey authority rules and regulations that impact our products' performance and quality.
• In charge of engineering management reporting and documentation.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the scope and impact of various departments, projects, and business areas.
• Help the project manager calculate how decisions will affect other areas.

Requirements

• Formal training in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
• A track record of success in using Aluminum in the Shipbuilding sector.
• At least seven years of experience as a Naval Architect or Senior Design Engineer.
• At least five years of engineering design department management experience.
• Excellent dispute resolution and negotiating abilities.
• Solid understanding of the Flag Regulations and Classification Society Rules.
• Orientation toward performance and results.
• Outstanding leadership and interpersonal abilities.
