Job summary

Salling Search is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead aluminium vessel projects in Singapore and Vietnam. You will guide engineering teams, ensure design compliance, and engage with regulators to secure approvals.

This role requires a strong background in naval architecture or marine engineering, 7+ years in senior roles, and leadership of an engineering design department. It offers strategic influence over design standards and project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Formal qualifications in Naval Architecture or Mechanical/Marine Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience as a Senior Design Engineer or Naval Architect.
• 5+ years leading an engineering design department.
• Proven aluminium shipbuilding experience.
• Knowledge of Classification Society rules and Flag regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering teams across Singapore and Vietnam to deliver project objectives.
• Provide technical and design expertise for safe, buildable vessel solutions.
• Schedule and coordinate design deliverables to meet project timelines.
• Ensure vessel designs comply with contractual specs and regulatory standards.
• Oversee technical reviews for procurement of equipment and materials.
• Interact with classification societies, flag states, and regulators for approvals.
• Resolve technical challenges with OEMs, clients, and regulators.
• Lead weight management and control throughout vessel construction.
• Lead activities for inclining experiments, lightship surveys, and sea trial protocols.
• Engage in high-level contractual negotiations and dispute resolution.
• Maintain and update company design standards and pursue improvements.
• Collaborate with General Manager and senior management to align engineering with business strategy.
• Liaise with shipyard personnel to ensure product performance.

Salling Search is currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager for an aluminium shipbuilding company in Singapore. This role leads the company's engineering teams in Singapore and Vietnam and is responsible for the technical delivery of high-tech aluminium vessel projects. It offers real influence over design standards, regulatory engagement and project outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering teams including engineers, naval architects, designers, and drafters across Singapore and Vietnam to deliver project objectives
• Provide technical and design expertise to develop safe, feasible, buildable, and cost-effective vessel solutions
• Schedule and coordinate design deliverables to meet project timelines and contractual requirements
• Ensure vessel designs comply with all contractual specifications and regulatory standards
• Oversee technical reviews for procurement of main equipment and materials to ensure quality and compliance
• Manage interactions with classification societies, flag states, and regulatory bodies to secure approvals and resolve issues
• Resolve technical challenges collaboratively with OEMs, clients, classification societies, and flag states
• Lead weight management and control processes throughout vessel construction to maintain design integrity
• Lead technical activities for inclining experiments, lightship surveys, and sea trial protocols, including loading condition assessments
• Handle high-level contractual negotiations, dispute resolution, and contractual matters to protect company interests
• Maintain and update company design standards, driving continuous improvements aligned with industry best practices
• Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Engineering, and senior management to align engineering goals with business strategy
• Liaise with shipyard personnel and management to ensure product performance meets company objectives
• Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, partners, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to support project success
• Manage engineering documentation and reporting, supporting Project Managers in assessing technical decision impacts across departments

Requirements

• Formal qualifications in Naval Architecture or Mechanical/Marine Engineering
• At least 7 years of experience as a Senior Design Engineer or Naval Architect
• At least 5 years of experience managing an engineering design department
• Proven experience working with aluminium in the shipbuilding industry
• Sound working knowledge of Classification Society rules and Flag regulations
• Experience in contractual management, with strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills
• Strong network of industry suppliers, subcontractors and contacts
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a performance and outcome focus
• Experience working with multicultural teams is an advantage
