Job summary

BNL Waste Management Pte. Ltd. in Singapore seeks a senior engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of waste sorting and valorisation solutions across facilities.

You will own the end-to-end engineering lifecycle, drive continuous improvements, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with safety and ISO standards, collaborating with Operations and Business Development to align with throughput and cost goals.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical/Chemical/Electrical/Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering roles, with exposure to waste management, recycling, materials recovery, or industrial automation is advantageous
  • Experience with process optimization methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with robotics, automation systems, or process engineering strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of delivering technology projects.
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of engineering solutions for waste sorting, material recovery, and valorisation
  • Audit and assess current waste sorting and processing workflows to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization ahead of new technology deployment
  • Redesign and re-engineer existing processes - sorting sequences, manual/automated task allocation, and material flow - to improve throughput, reduce contamination rates, and lower operating costs
  • Own the end-to-end engineering lifecycle - from feasibility studies and concept design through prototyping, piloting, and full-scale rollout - for new waste processing technologies and equipment
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies (robotics, automation, sensor-based sorting, IoT monitoring) to improve sorting accuracy, throughput, and resource recovery rates
  • Develop and standardize engineering processes, SOPs, and technical specifications for waste sorting and valorisation systems across BNL facilities, ensuring consistency between lines
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, root cause analysis) to existing operations, using data on throughput, downtime, and recovery rates to prioritize optimization initiatives
  • Manage vendor and technology partner relationships, including evaluating equipment suppliers, system integrators, and R&D collaborators for new solutions
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, and Business Development teams to align engineering solutions and process improvements with operational capacity, safety standards, and commercial/valorisation goals
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across both new and existing systems to increase sorting efficiency, reduce contamination rates, and maximize the value recovered from processed waste streams
  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, and ROI tracking for engineering, process optimization, and technology deployment projects
  • Ensure all engineering solutions and process changes comply with WSH/bizSAFE requirements, environmental regulations, and relevant ISO/quality standards
