Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma in Sciences have specialization in chemistry and/or biology.
• Proficient in the use of basic laboratory technology and willing to learn.
• First aid certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the preparation of resources for practical lessons that meet health and safety standards and class requirements.
• Prepare solutions, materials, cultures for living organisms.
• Assemble apparatus.
• Obtain materials by local purchase.
• Trial practical activities.
• Construct and modify apparatus.
• Carry out risk assessments for technician activities.
• Assist in practical classes and demonstrations.
• Use initiative to identify areas requiring assistance and communicate with staff.
• Set up and monitor systems for resource management and control.
• Lead on stock control, compile orders, liaise with suppliers and maintain records.
• Monitor and record departmental expenditures in line with policy.
• Ensure availability of suitable materials and equipment and suggest alternatives.
• Deliver equipment, materials and organisms to rooms.
• Collect, clean, and return resources to stores timely.
• Maintain resources including routine repairs.
• Care for plants/animals.
• Check stock and update inventory.
• Order supplies in a timely manner.
