Job summary

Ambition Singapore is seeking an experienced Data Analyst - Finance Accounting to bridge Finance, Business, and Data teams. You will translate complex Finance requirements into data models and reporting solutions.

The role goes beyond querying data; you will perform end-to-end business process analysis across P&L, cost allocation, FTP, and GL structures, collaborating with data engineers and analysts to deliver accurate finance insights.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a Finance Accounting SME in banking or financial services.
• Strong SQL skills for data profiling, reconciliation, and validation.
• Advanced Excel skills including PivotTables and complex formulas.
• Experience translating business requirements into data models and reporting.
• Familiarity with GL structures, COA hierarchies, and P&L reporting.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst - Finance Accounting with strong banking finance domain expertise and hands-on data analysis capabilities. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between Finance, Business, and Data teams, translating complex Finance Accounting requirements into clear business processes, data requirements, data models, and reporting solutions.

This role requires more than querying and reporting data. The candidate should be a Finance Accounting subject matter expert capable of performing end-to-end business process analysis across areas such as Profit & Loss (P&L), cost allocation, Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP), and General Ledger (GL) structures, while working closely with data modellers and technology teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a Finance Accounting SME for banking-related data, reporting, and transformation initiatives.
• Analyze existing and target-state Finance Accounting business processes, systems, data flows, and reporting requirements.
• Perform detailed analysis across:
• Profit & Loss (P&L) structures and reporting
• Cost and expense allocation methodologies
• General Ledger (GL), chart of accounts, and accounting hierarchies
• Financial management and regulatory reporting data
• Engage Finance stakeholders to understand business objectives, pain points, reporting requirements, and data dependencies.
• Translate business and functional requirements into:
• Data requirements
• Source-to-target mappings
• Business rules
• Logical data models
• Reporting specifications
• Work closely with data modellers, data engineers, architects, and developers to ensure Finance requirements are accurately represented within enterprise data models and platforms.
• Use SQL to perform data profiling, reconciliation, validation, root-cause analysis, and investigation of Finance data issues.
• Analyze data lineage from source systems through accounting and reporting platforms to downstream Finance reports.
• Support reconciliation between source systems, sub-ledgers, GL, management reporting, and analytical data platforms.
• Define and validate Finance KPIs, measures, dimensions, hierarchies, and calculation methodologies.
• Support the design, enhancement, and validation of Finance Accounting reporting suites and dashboards.
• Identify data quality issues and work with business and technology teams to define remediation approaches and controls.
• Produce business process flows, data mappings, functional specifications, and other analysis documentation.
• Support UAT by defining test scenarios, validating financial calculations, reconciling results, and coordinating issue resolution.
• Communicate complex Finance and data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Experience and Skills

• 5+ years of experience as a Finance Accounting SME, Finance Data Analyst, Business Data Analyst, or similar role within the banking or financial services industry.
• Strong domain knowledge of:
• P&L and financial performance reporting
• Cost allocation
• General Ledger structures
• Chart of Accounts and accounting hierarchies
• Finance reporting processes
• Demonstrated experience performing business process analysis, not limited to technical data querying.
• Strong hands-on SQL skills for data analysis, profiling, reconciliation, and validation.
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into data models, mappings, business rules, and reporting requirements.
• Experience working with Finance Accounting data models, data warehouses, data marts, or enterprise data platforms.
• Experience with Finance Accounting reporting suites and management reporting solutions.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, PivotTables, data reconciliation, and analytical modelling.
• Comfortable working closely with data modellers to define entities, attributes, relationships, dimensions, hierarchies, and financial measures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex financial data issues.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
• Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, or equivalent would be advantageous.
• Experience with banking Finance transformation, Finance data platforms, or Finance data warehouse programmes.
• Familiarity with dimensional modelling, logical/physical data modelling, and data lineage concepts.
• Experience with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or similar platforms.
