This role is responsible for conducting cost monitoring and controlling activities through all phases of project lifecycle including budget development & setup, cost monitoring& control, forecasting, change management, reporting, asset capitalisation register, and commercial closeout.
Cost Monitoring and Control
- Support the development, maintenance and monitoring of project budgets and cost forecasts.
- Track project expenditures, commitments, accruals and value of work done (VOWD).
- Assist in analysing cost performance and identifying cost deviations, trends and risks.
- Provide early warning of potential cost overruns and support corrective actions.
Forecasting and Reporting
- Prepare and maintain monthly cost reports and forecasting information.
- Monitor and report progress against approved budgets, contingencies and authorisations for expenditure (AFE).
- Support the preparation of cost performance metrics, variances and management reporting.
- Utilise reporting tools and dashboards to provide accurate and timely cost information to stakeholders.
Project Controls and Change Management
- Support the implementation and administration of project cost control processes and procedures.
- Assist with the establishment and maintenance of Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS).
- Support cost assurance reviews, benchmarking activities and change management processes.
- Maintain accurate records relating to budgets, forecasts, changes and project closeout activities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with project engineers, planners, finance teams and contractors to ensure cost information is accurate and complete.
- Participate in regular project reviews to improve forecast accuracy and cost management outcomes.
- Support engagement with external contractors providing cost documentation and reporting information.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience in cost control, project controls, cost management or commercial support roles.
- Understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting and change management processes.
- Experience using cost management and project control systems such as SAP, Unifier or equivalent tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret cost data and identify trends.
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present cost information clearly to stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
