Job summary

Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), A*STAR, seeks a Research Officer to provide computational support and maintain analysis pipelines for RNA-seq and long-read sequencing data. You will process datasets, implement and test tools, and ensure reproducible analyses under senior guidance.

We value a software engineering or computer science background, strong coding discipline, and ability to work in a collaborative, lab-based environment focused on computational genomics.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related quantitative discipline.
• Solid programming ability, particularly in Python, and write reliable code.
• Comfortable working in a Linux/command line environment and with Git.
• Hands-on experience with bioinformatics tools and RNA-seq data analysis.
• Genuine interest in bioinformatics and computational biology.
• Disciplined and organised with strong attention to detail.
• Collaborative team player who follows through on tasks.

Responsibilities

• Run, maintain, and troubleshoot bioinformatics pipelines for RNA-seq and long-read sequencing data.
• Process, organise, and quality check sequencing datasets and keep clear records.
• Implement, test, and document software tools and analysis scripts under guidance.
• Support benchmarking of methods by preparing datasets and summarising results.
• Maintain code, documentation, and computing resources for reproducibility.
• Provide day-to-day computational support to lab members and collaborators.
