Job summary

RB ENGINEERING PTE. LTD. is seeking a Civil Supervisor to oversee sewer trench excavation and pipe-laying activities on site in Singapore.

You will ensure works follow approved drawings, specs, method statements and project schedules while coordinating with engineers, surveyors and subcontractors. Responsibilities include checking trench alignment, depths and gradients, supervising manhole construction, coordinating dewatering, safety, and reporting progress.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of relevant experience in civil construction, sewer, drainage or underground utility works.
• Experience in sewer trench excavation and pipe-laying works is preferred.
• Good knowledge of sewer pipes, manholes, trench excavation, shoring and backfilling.

Responsibilities

• Supervise sewer trench excavation and pipe-laying works daily.
• Set trench alignment, levels, gradients and manhole locations according to drawings.
• Ensure excavation and pipe installation meet specifications.
• Monitor trench shoring, barricades and safety requirements.
• Coordinate with excavator operators, workers, surveyors and subcontractors on site.
• Check bedding, sewer pipe installation, jointing, alignment and level.
• Supervise manhole construction and connections.
• Arrange dewatering and keep trench safe for installation.
• Inspect materials delivered to site and ensure proper storage.
• Coordinate inspections with engineers, consultants and authorities.
• Monitor manpower, equipment and progress.
• Maintain daily site records and inspection reports.
• Identify site issues and report to Project Engineer/Manager.
• Ensure backfilling, compaction and reinstatement after installation.
• Conduct toolbox talks and enforce risk assessments and safety procedures.
• Maintain housekeeping and a safe working environment.
• Coordinate testing, inspection and commissioning of sewer works.

Civil Supervisor - Sewer Trench Works

Supervise and coordinate daily sewer trench excavation and pipe-laying activities. Ensure works are carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, method statements and project schedules. Check trench alignment, depth, width, levels and gradients before and during pipe installation. Supervise sewer pipe laying, jointing, bedding, manhole construction and connections. Coordinate with Site Engineers, Surveyors, subcontractors, workers and equipment operators. Monitor excavation, shoring, dewatering, backfilling and compaction works. Ensure existing underground utilities are properly identified and protected. Conduct site inspections and coordinate with consultants, engineers and relevant authorities. Monitor daily manpower, machinery, materials and work progress. Prepare daily reports, work records and inspection documentation. Ensure proper quality control and rectify site issues promptly. Conduct toolbox meetings and ensure workers comply with safety requirements. Ensure proper barricading, signage, access and housekeeping at the work area. Coordinate testing, inspection and completion of sewer works. Report site progress, delays, safety issues and technical problems to the Project Manager/Site Engineer.

Job Requirements

• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in civil construction, sewer, drainage or underground utility works.
• Experience in sewer trench excavation and pipe-laying works is preferred.
• Good knowledge of sewer pipes, manholes, trench excavation, shoring and backfilling.
• Able to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of setting out, levels, alignment and gradients.
• Able to supervise workers and coordinate subcontractors effectively.
• Good understanding of construction site safety requirements.
• Able to work independently and under pressure at site.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Physically fit and willing to work outdoors.
• Relevant construction safety training/certification will be an advantage.
• Singapore construction experience will be an advantage.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily sewer trench excavation and pipe-laying works.
• Set out trench alignment, levels, gradients and manhole locations according to approved drawings.
• Ensure excavation, trench width/depth and pipe installation are carried out as per specifications.
• Monitor trench shoring, barricading, access and other safety requirements.
• Coordinate with excavator operators, workers, surveyors and subcontractors at site.
• Check bedding preparation, sewer pipe installation, jointing, alignment and level.
• Supervise manhole construction, connections and related civil works.
• Arrange dewatering and ensure the trench remains safe and suitable for pipe installation.
• Inspect materials delivered to site and ensure proper storage and handling.
• Coordinate inspections with the Engineer, Consultant and relevant authorities.
• Monitor daily manpower, equipment, work progress and productivity.
• Maintain daily site records, work progress reports and inspection records.
• Identify site issues, existing utilities and unexpected ground conditions, and report them to the Project Engineer/Manager.
• Ensure proper backfilling, compaction and temporary/permanent reinstatement after pipe installation.
• Conduct toolbox meetings and ensure workers follow approved Risk Assessment, Method Statement and safety procedures.
• Ensure good housekeeping and maintain a safe working environment throughout the work area.
• Coordinate testing, inspection and commissioning of completed sewer works.
• Ensure work is completed according to project specifications, quality requirements and approved programme.
