Job summary

ScienTec Consulting Pte. Ltd. is seeking a backend software engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable Python-based services and RESTful APIs.

You will own features end-to-end, build integrations with internal and external systems, and contribute to AI-powered backend capabilities and data pipelines. The role requires 4+ years of production experience, strong Python skills (FastAPI/Flask), and familiarity with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Azure.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python with modern frameworks (FastAPI or Flask).
• Experience building RESTful APIs and OAuth 2.0-based auth.
• Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Exposure to LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, and vector stores.
• Infrastructure as code tools (Terraform) advantageous.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• Strong collaboration across product, engineering, and UX teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python.
• Own backend features across the full development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment, and production support.
• Build integrations with internal platforms, external systems, and third-party APIs.
• Develop and enhance AI-powered backend capabilities.
• Build and maintain data processing pipelines for reliable and efficient information retrieval.
• Work with relational and non-relational databases to deliver performant and resilient backend systems.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability, observability, and operational performance.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices across testing, CI/CD, security, and maintainability.
• Continuously improve platform architecture, performance, scalability, and developer experience.

What We Are Looking For

• Min. 4 years of backend software engineering experience in a production environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, including frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
• Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs, third-party APIs, and OAuth 2.0 / token-based authentication.
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Exposure to LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, and vector databases
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform would be advantageous
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitLab, GitHub, or equivalent version control and deployment workflows.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across product, engineering, and UX teams.
