Job summary

ScienTec Consulting Pte. Ltd. is seeking an experienced backend engineer in Singapore to design, build, and maintain scalable Python-based services and RESTful APIs.

You will own feature development end-to-end, integrate with internal and external systems, and advance AI-enabled backend capabilities for document ingestion and knowledge processing. The role requires 4+ years of production backend experience, proficiency in FastAPI or Flask, and strong database skills (Redis, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).

Qualifications

• A minimum of 4 years of backend software engineering experience in production.
• Strong Python backend development with FastAPI or Flask.
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with both relational and non-relational databases.
• Hands-on with CI/CD and version control (GitHub/GitLab).
• Excellent communication across product, engineering and UX teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs in Python.

Working Hours: Monday - Thursday (8.30am - 6pm), Friday (8.30am - 5.30pm) (Hybrid working arrangement)

Working Location:Central

Salary Package: Up to $11,000 + AWS

Employment Type: Full Time Contract (1 year renewable with chances of conversion)

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python.
• Own backend feature development end-to-end, from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Build and maintain integrations with internal platforms, external systems, and third-party services.
• Develop and enhance AI-powered backend capabilities, including document ingestion, retrieval, and knowledge processing services.
• Design and maintain data processing pipelines to support reliable and efficient information retrieval.
• Work with relational and non-relational databases to support performant, scalable, and resilient backend systems.
• Debug and resolve production issues, contributing to system reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, software engineers and partner teams to deliver high-quality backend solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices across testing, CI/CD, security, and maintainability.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the platform's architecture, performance, and developer experience.

Requirements:

• Minimum 4 years of backend software engineering experience in a production environment
• Proficiency in backend development with Python, including web frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly Azure
• Experience with RESTful API design, third-party API integration, and OAuth 2.0 / token-based authentication flows
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. Redis, MongoDB, PostgreSQL)
• Familiarity with operational support, and production troubleshooting
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline and version control workflows (Gitlab or GitHub, or equivalent)
• Effective communication skills and comfortable working across product, engineering and UX functions
