Job summary

SCIENTEC CONSULTING PTE. LTD. in Singapore is seeking an Azure Database Administrator to install, configure, and maintain databases in its GCC cloud environment, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.

This contract role (1 year renewable) emphasizes security, performance, availability, and disaster recovery, with a hybrid work arrangement and compensation up to SGD 11,000 monthly plus AWS benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on DBA experience, preferably with SQL Server 2016+.
• Hands-on experience administering Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and/or SQL Server on Azure VMs.
• Experience writing and executing T-SQL scripts for production data patching/maintenance with change management.
• Experience in performance tuning, troubleshooting, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures, execution plans, Query Store, and DMVs.
• Experience with SQL Server security features (TDE, Always Encrypted, RBAC).
• Eligible to obtain GCC government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provision databases with required licenses.

• Manage tuning, index maintenance, statistics updates, integrity checks, and capacity management.
• Maintain configuration baselines, runbooks, patch logs, and audit documentation for handover.

Azure Database Administrator

Working Hours: Mon-Fri (Hybrid)

Job Overview

We are looking for an Azure Database Administrator to install, configure, administer, and maintain database platforms hosted within its Azure Government Commercial Cloud(GCC) environment. This includes Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Microsoft SQL Server hosted on Azure Virtual Machines. This role is responsible for database security, performance, availability, and disaster recovery, ensuring systems remain highly usable while meeting stringent government security and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provision databases with required licenses.
• Install, configure, administer, and maintain Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Microsoft SQL Server hosted on Azure Virtual Machines within the GCC Azure environment.
• Execute SQL scripts, stored procedures, and scheduled jobs to perform data patches, corrections, and updates across production and non-production environments, following change control and approval processes.
• Implement data security and recovery controls.
• Configure and maintain database backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery arrangements, including built-in high availability and auto-failover groups for Azure SQL, and Always On Availability Groups or log shipping for SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.
• Monitor database health, performance, user access, and security.
• Set up and maintain database monitoring, alerts, and diagnostic logging using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Microsoft Defender for SQL, and/or the agency's designated SIEM.
• Manage parameters for database optimisation, including performance tuning, query optimisation, index maintenance, statistics updates, integrity checks, and capacity management.
• Implement configuration management for business continuity plans and automate disaster recovery measures.
• Maintain database configuration baselines, asset inventory, runbooks, patch records, script execution and change logs, access review evidence, and operational documentation for audit and handover purposes.
• Support systems to ensure a high degree of usability, balanced with stringent security requirements.
• Support compliance with IM8, PDPA, GCC Azure governance requirements, agency security policies, and applicable database hardening standards.

Requirements

Required:

• Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field.
• Min. 5 years' hands-on DBA experience, preferably with SQL Server 2016+.
• Hands-on experience administering Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and/or SQL Server on Azure VMs.
• Experience writing and executing T-SQL scripts for production data patching/maintenance, with adherence to change management.
• Experience in performance tuning, troubleshooting, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Good working knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures, execution plan analysis, Query Store, and Dynamic Management Views.
• Experience with SQL Server security features (e.g. TDE, Dynamic Data Masking, Always Encrypted, Row-Level Security, SQL Server Audit, RBAC).
• Experience with backup/restore, point-in-time recovery, DR testing, and RPO/RTO validation.
• Eligible to obtain government security clearance and comply with GCC access requirements.

Good to Have:

• Familiarity with Azure Entra ID, PIM, Key Vault, Microsoft Defender for SQL/Cloud, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics.
• Prior experience with GCC Azure, government agency environments, IM8, PDPA, or MTCS.
• Certifications such as DP-300, Azure Database Administrator Associate, AZ-900, AZ-104, or CompTIA Security+.
