Job summary

Tate & Lyle in Singapore seeks an Associate Principal Scientist to support new product development and process improvements, delivering high-quality, compliant R&D work. You will translate lab protocols into scalable automated processes and partner with cross-functional teams to drive innovation from concept to implementation.

The role requires a Master’s or PhD in a relevant field with 4–7 years (or 3–6 years post-PhD) industrial experience, and a strong focus on product/process R&D practices

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in chemical engineering / chemistry / mechanical engineering / Materials Science / Biotechnology, or a related scientific/engineering discipline with 4–7 years of industrial experience; PhD with 3–6 years is an added advantage.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Product / Process R&D procedures and methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Translate starch modification protocols from manual lab experiments into scalable automated reactor processes.
• Execute automated process recipes and control using Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or equivalent technologies.
• Troubleshoot and improve automated reaction processes and performance.
• Collaborate with ingredients R&D teams to convert science objectives into executable campaigns and analyse feasibility.
• Partner with Process Development, Digitalization, IT and external providers to implement and troubleshoot automation systems.
• Drive process and automation improvements through data analysis and CAPEX recommendations.
• Ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of automated process equipment.
• Contribute to patents, publications and technical presentations.
